Different Fonts for Your Comics?

Hey ya'll.

So...an elementary question...

So far, I've just been using Comic Sans MS for all the text in my comics but I want to change it up a bit. Is there a particular place you go to on the web/recommend to get fonts that you can use for your comics? Or do you create your own..? Any advice would be appreciated~!

well.. I found mine through google (and can't find the bookmark right now) the main thing to pay attention to is whether it's licensed for commercial use (if you want them free like I do )

Blambot! Lots of comicky fonts here, both free and pay. The primary font used in Heart of Keol is a Blambot font (Cloudsplitter to be exact).

The secondary font comes from Kimberly Geswein Fonts. Must pay a small commercial fee if you want to sell your comic.

PS. The "KG Love Somebody" font in Kimberly Geswein Fonts is based on my handwriting! XD She used to take "convert your handwriting to a font" requests. Not sure if she's still doing it. If you're interested in converting your own handwriting to a font, here's a free site where you can do exactly that.

If you really like Comic Sans, you could also use ComicNeue which looks similar to it, but doesn't have the annoying stuff that makes Comic Sans possibly the world's most hated font.

Another great place is fontsquirrel, they have many great fonts and they are free

I second Blambot.
If you intend to print/sell your stuff keep in mind that it pays to actually find a few you like, purchase them and use the heck out of in your work. Most fonts are not free for commercial use (the best-looking anyway, lol), only personal, so having a store-bought few is a good investment in the long run, the more versatile the font use the better--fancy fonts look good but they're rarely gonna get used in the day-to-day comicking. I bought all of mine and for the others I even emailed the creators to use with permission if it was not clear in the terms of use they were 100% free for commercial use.

I use dafont.com and blambot. Also be careful to make sure it's free for commercial use.

I'm using Sunday Comics from blambot. Blambot is in general pretty good for "comic"-style fonts. Another good site for all kinds of different fonts is dafont.

Thank you everyone for the great links! I've been combing through blambot but I can't find a way to pay the license fee for the free fonts. Does anyone happen to know how to do this? Thank you!

Another option is to make your own font, this site makes it very easy (and inexpensive). http://www.yourfonts.com/

What do you mean? If you click on a font there are payment options at the bottom, all major credit cards and paypal...

Really? why don't I see this...I see the pay options, but none of them are links for actual payment...For the pay fonts, yes it goes to the cart...but I don't see a way to do anything for the free ones if I want to pay a license fee....

I do believe it says you have to email them (bottom, under General, license) to get an offer but I see they have a freebie for indie comic makers so you can use the free ones anyhow you like. I dunno, I always preferred things clear-cut and a pro gave me this advice early on: Buy a thing, never have to worry about license changes. Just in case, ya know, you end up super-popular and selling a ton.

I use Komika. It's toony, and it has accents, which is not important in English, but for French, it's a must !

I use "I hate comic sans" for Bet on it and I think I used Komika for my one-shot Dreaming

Once you download the free font it has a read me file with instructions.
