Okay, I've been reading this thread since it started and meditated my response. Tell me what's your opinion on it
How can we disrupt the monopoly game?
Spread our work over more platforms (both physical and digital).
The big ones became big enough to obly us to obey their savage rules.
We need more businesses in the game.
Artists give the first step to make society evolve, our presence in new places [some of them are already being born out of this censorship attack, for example: Pillowfort] generates community and attracts more users.
That way we help new sites build up brand, becoming an alternative to the big platforms.
Having alternatives, users won't endure so much bullying and instead migrate platforms (as it happened with Tumblr).
Alternative platforms grow up, power is shared by some time, and eventually, monopoly rises up again.
And the game repeats.
Nothing lasts forever, life is loops.
Movement makes society evolve
How can we solve the censorship problem in Tapas with Apple store?
I think I would make a censored version of my comic, but the original one would remain in the platform
The comic is free and complying with Tapas rules
I won't be censoring to everybody just because one channel of access got blocked
Readers that can't read the original version, could find the censored one, where I would indicate:
"Guys, this is censored because [respectful explanation], but the original vers is still here [link] in the same platform. You can go out of the Apple app and connect to Tapas through [alternative ways] [Some thankful words, because they're always welcome]
).
I have a demo of this way of act in another platform, where admin put down my comic asking me to put a "less NSFW cover" and I complied. The guy had no problem with my content, just wanted a "family-friendly" cover, so I made a cover specifically for the place and put a sign on it: "Censored cover, enter to see the original".
Apple has the problem, not Tapas or the readership. Apple wants to bully us? Well, my compliance is full of:
- "Censored version, link below to see the original" signs.
- "Read it clean in this platform, change to desktop or mobile site" signs.
- And, why not? "Oh, no, where are my nipples?!" bubbles.
Probably I would also encourage readers to give love to the censored vers, so more bullied people reaches to it and:
- Get to know what's going on.
- Get to read the original vers.
Maybe even update a reminder every so often among the work, so they don't indesensitize. The same way we encourage them to give ink
But this is my point of view based on Tapas standing up for us
If they're being bullied to bully us, we'll have to use our methods to stand up for them
