Do you generally like to tell people
what you are going to work on and then start doing it?
or do you wait until it's already in progress before you let anyone know you're creating?

In general, I've been most comfortable with telling others I'm "going to make xyz" after it's almost completely finished. Sometimes, If the foundation is really complex on it's own, I may share it.

Tbh sometimes I'll mention I am gonna work on somethin before I start on it and sometimes I'll wait until I am already done/ in progress before letting any body know of what I am making of

So it really depends for me lol
Like if I am doing an event then yes or for an Collab nope fufufu

I have a habit of mentioning something I want to work on before I solidify anything XD and then it takes a year or two to really get my ideas down and even start the dang thing.

Usually I just find myself in a middle of drawing some random stuff like

I used to tell people a lot about my plans, even if they were just newborn ideas with exactly one (1) doodle to show for 'em. But I don't like doing that so much anymore...it gives me the appearance of someone who's working on lots and lots of projects, with all the pressure that goes with it. ^^; And I'm already actually working on lots of lots of projects; I can do without the illusion.

I try not to announce anything until I've at least thought about it for a couple months, and/or started a Word doc where I write down all my ideas (if the inspiration fizzles out immediately after I start writing, congrats, I get to keep the project under wraps for a little longer).
Sometimes I dream about starting a comic where I don't even tell anyone it exists until I've drawn at least a few pages in preparation...sigh, one of these days...

I am always already in progress, part way through before I share.

where is the option of not telling anyone?

Honestly I'm very selective with who I tell about my work, especially among irl people I know. BL just doesn't have a very good reputation (nor does my anime/cartoon style art among older folks) so I'm very careful with who I share it with. If I do share it, it also depends on if it's a creative buddy or just a friend/family member, because if it's still in the pre-creation stage my creative buds are really good people to bounce ideas of off.

When I was younger I'd get really excited about a project and tell everyone that I was going to do this amazing thing...and then get burnt out and never follow through. These days I just produce, publish, produce, publish. That way if I don't finish a project I can just hold it on the backburner for a while and I don't feel pressured by what I've said.

In general, I dislike the feeling of making people wait so I'd rather create first and then show, especially with webcomics. One of my goals this year was to open a sticker store and I ended up announcing that first before making anything. I think because I see it as many small projects (each design being a different project), the scope feels smaller so I won't be making people wait as long ^^" Hope this makes sense

I don't like to tell until I'm sure I'm going to do it--because I very often drop projects! Like all the time! Don't want to get someone's hopes up.

A lot of the time, I'll get started on something without telling anyone, and maybe halfway I'll mention it. Partly so people expect a nice surprise and partly so I actually commit to finishing XD

I'll only ever mention something before doing it if I'm not fully committed on an idea yet and I wanna see if other folks are interested in it.

With my comic, I told loads of people I was going to have 5 pages out by the start of Feburary because doing so gave me an external deadline of people who were excited to read it. My ADHD brain really loves deadlines, they help me get stuff done. I set an ambitious update schedule for that reason as well; I can get through so much more work each week if it HAS to be done by a certain date.
