I've been toying around a little with Instagram paid promotions with my comic, where the "learn more" link leads to my comic here on tapas. I've had mixed results.
here's my dashboard picture to compare to (I only started uploading at the start of October so this is all of my view data xD)
The first week, Oct 6-13 I didn't do any paid advertising. That was the first update, which was the 7 page "prologue".
On the 14th when I uploaded my next 2 page update, I started a 6-day $3/day promotion on Instagram. That yeilded overall higher views over the course of the week and the final stats on the instagram post were like: 106 likes, 11 bookmarks, & 31 clicks to come to my tapas page. Not bad.
The following week on the 21st, I decided to do a 6-day $2/day promotion. This one was much more disappointing. Same upload day views, and the post itself got 216 likes, but 0 bookmarks and 0 website clicks. Ew.
Finally on my most recent upload on the 28th I did a single day $3 promotion, which netted 30 likes, 2 bookmarks, & 4 website clicks. Much better than the whole prior week at $2/day.
So yeah the results have been kind of all over the place. This weekend I'm considering doing a 1 day $4 one to see if the results are proportionately better than the 1 day $3 one.
It should be noted though that this has seemingly only helped with views, and not likes/subs/comments. I'm not sure if it's more the case that the views I'm attracting don't have Tapas accounts or if they're simply not interested in my comic (both equally likely xD) but yeah, the acquisition of subs is a lot harder than simply generating views. Even so my comic is doing about 3x better in views and subs here than on Webtoons, so that's something~
