To a degree, yes. Subscribers and commenters are few and far between and it can feel daunting when you put so much effort into creating something you feel so passionate about (I also pay an artist, so I have a lot of time and money invested in this). Tapas isn't the only place I promote, but it's where I direct my Project Wonderful ad pennies/occasional dollars and is the web community I'm most interested in.

Any eyes/minds engaging with The Beard are immensely appreciated!

Also, why the heck doesn't The Empathy Drive have WAY more readers? Great sci-fi story with playful art, an engaging story and some inventive GIF action.

Sadly the new Tapas system is very business based and seems to be aimed towards the money rather the the creators, this is going to make new creators and unknown creators have a hard time getting seen, the old system wasn't perfect for new creators (As it was at the bottom of the page) but it was still better then the cluttered mess currently on the front page.

I do feel ignored by Tapastic. Might be the genre of my comic or as I fear it might just be my comic not being good enough to garner attention. Honest thoughts I have.

... I will just give a friendly reminder here that if you publish your link on Facebook you better already have some sort of watermark on your comic. It's good to be famous, but I have see too many good one-shot/page comic on Facebook with no watermark [or even a credit link] that got shared on 'funny facebook page' and then the page itself is the one that got all the credits. And even if you complain most of the times it won't taken down.

I know, I seems to be over reacted. But there is a chance some 'funny facebook page' will see your pages, decided to check it, found comic they like and just post one particular page, which you didn't have watermark on it.

So well, I hope you guys do get more exposure. Just to be sure that you have your comic watermarked and on position where it's hard to crop aka not on bottom.

Also, I know Facebook isn't the only one place where people post comic without permission of the owner so yeah, just want to give a friendly reminder, watermark your works before you start promoting it everywhere.

I always see the same comics coming back on the front page. While I always wonder myself if there isn't a spot for new comics to give other artists a chance.
I've been on Tapastic for 3 years now and still feel ignored or underrated in art-style by many other populair comics. I came here from Inkblazers (which was shut down) and my comic there was going pretty well there. Even on Smackjeeves where I decided to reupload my work a few weeks ago I have a better rating and more viewers. I wonder what's going on.

Alot other good comic artists deserve just a much attention as the trending ones!

I think it's a matter of different comics working well in some places and others not. I came from inkblazers too and inkblazers was absolute trash for me. I may as well not have bothered uploading my comic there at all.
Same goes for smackjeeves, I have a very small audience there and it's difficult to gain one. If anything I'm just losing followers over there half the time.
Tapastic, however, works super well for me, and webtoon would be the second best.

I think it depends on your comic's tone and update rate. I have a fast and frequent update rate, so for me, while smackjeeves CAN work to some extent and inkblazers could have as well, they are extremely ineffective compared to what tapastic and webtoon can do for me. However, for someone who updates once a week or has low audience interaction, tapastic won't work very well at all unless they already have a following elsewhere or get lucky and get spotlighted. Smackjeeves is probably your best bet if you have a slow update rate.

Inkblazers was mainly focussed on Manga. I kind of have a mix in style and it's sort of worked out. It doesn't really here. It seems like BL comics are very populair on Tapas because they are all over the homepage.
I update once in a week or 8-9 days here on Tapas since the lack of time I have at the moment. I used to update twice a week while I update every 4-5 days on Smackjeeves (still reuploading old episodes) and it works having a faster update schedule there.

It's a matter of luck I guess.

BL is popular on smackjeeves too lol, and Webtoons as well but webtoon doesn't actively promote them.

I think the reason lgbt webcomics are so common and popular is because web created media is the main place where you can go find them. It's a demand that traditional media doesn't satisfy, so when creators on webcomic sites come and satisfy that demand, it will quickly create a collected culture on the site and become a force of its own that affects how popular the comics may or may not be.

I actually disagree; making a distinct category for it would create a divide between gay and straight people. What we want to do is destroy that divide and have people come together and understand each other.

Love is love. BL already has a category: Romance.

Funny that for me smackjeeves doesn't work at all for me (and I don't know why, I'm new to the platform. Maybe I'm missing something). My manga updates regularly since this year and only has 10-ish subscribers. Here on tapas I also have a really slow growth but I have one ^^ I'm still far from competing with popular webcomics/topics (like BL) but I think we shouldn't give up. Just because it gets more attention doesn't mean other genres or comics aren't worth of uploading. Actually we make tapas or webtoons or smackjeeves more diverse and attractive for lots of other people. Keep it up and maybe some day YOU are the trend setter xD
