Do you guys do it for the money?

A few years ago I had the innocent idea that this would be the case, but now I see this more as a way to feel better about myself, nothing more. If anyone wants to support me, I will always appreciate it.

Drawing a comic is something that takes time, but I'm enjoying it and I've learned a lot from it.

No I dont exactly do it [just] for the money, but I'm not doing it all from "the goodness of my heart" either...the creating art/comics part is the "simple" part for me- getting folks to give ink for the work that I do(or give money to my revenue sources such as Patreon or Ko-fi) is the "hard" part.

Like @MK_Wizard said, what we do is work; therefore we need to be trying to ensure that if the opportunity arises we're compensated for our efforts/results.

Personally, no I don’t. Presently, my comic doesn’t make money, however I certainly consider it to be my (part time) job, and I hope to monetize (or even publish) it someday.
That being said, I’ve loved making comics since I was practically a toddler, so money or not, I’d still make and tell my stories. Having it be my full time job would be ideal, as I could dedicate more time to it, but that’s for the future!
For whatever reason anyone makes their comic, money or not, as long as you’re genuinely trying and doing your best, keep doing it! Keep telling your stories! We want to hear them.

I don't presently write Apparent Secrets for the money, but maybe someday. As of this writing, I haven't made a cent from doing it, but I'd definitely appreciate it if people loved it enough to throw a few pennies my way.

Do I write for the money? I’ve seen what my bank account thinks of that idea :)). I publish stories because it’s fun, it’s mildly therapeutic, and it gives me an excuse to scream into the void in a way that feels productive. Writing helps me explore stuff like feelings and trauma. Also, I like the fact that strangers sometimes read it and go, "Yeah, me too"… makes me feel weirdly… connected? Which is kind of beautiful.

I'm making my comic because I want to and because I like being creative.
I also like horror and the more fun side of horror.
I'm sure if you asked anyone if they could turn their hobby/passion into a money maker then they'd say yes.
After all if you do what you love you'll never technically work a day in your life.
However I didn't start making a comic for the money. That would of been a fool's errand.
I just had an idea for an interesting comic that I wanted to get out of my brain and see if anyone else thought it was cool.
If it was about the money I would have made another of the many, many romance comics, but I went with horror/comedy because it's what I love.
If I set up a patreon or something it's not gonna happen for awhile and if I do it's not something I'll worry about heavily and just be something to help out on the side.

I fix cars for money. I write/draw for the enjoyment. If somebody were to ever pay me I wouldn’t turn it down, but no, I’m not in it for the money

I write my stories because i'm passionate about them, but I do writing is my job and much of my writing are stories I create for specific themes for writing competitions and such. For example, I wrote a story for a competition that's theme was to write a story that never used the letter 'r' once and another story for a competition with the theme of 'motion,' Both stories were about things i'm passionate about, but they were designed to fit within the competitions rules/themes.

I do it for me. Maybe one day I would like to gain a profit. But, right now, I write and draw for the sake of putting something out there that others can relate to, that others can sympathize with.

I don't think you can get into comics for the money. Very few artists actually make any in this industry. Even many proffessional published artists don't make that much. Some might be lucky enough to get work as an illustrator to supplement their income, but only a chosen few can make a living off of comics.

That said, my ultimate goal is to become one of these chosen few, but even then it's not really about the money. It's about having the time to dedicate to making comics and freedom to choose your own working hours.

Mm... my own art, my own comics, and basically anything I do of my own volition? Nah. I don't make anything from that stuff. I also don't exactly plan to-- if I wanted to I would have stuck with fluffy heartwarming BL romances since that's the only thing that got a lot of attention. Or perhaps I would have kept that one popular art blog I had and just leaned into being a solely NSFW artist. Sold a lot more commissions that way then I do now.

Speaking of: Commissions, yeah those are just money. I rarely ever get any actual joy from working on those.

i don't get any money from my comic - though itd be great if i did haha - so no. as for my other art, which i do make money off (a little bit from drawing commissions, but much more from etsy)... still no. i make art because i like it, and actually find commissions a bit of a chore, aha (probably good i dont get them super regularly). even etsy, where i make most of my art related money, i still make the art because i want to and it just happens to be something i can and will sell. even when i make something with the purpose of selling it, i still at the end of the day do it because i awnt to. id be making it even if i made no money off it

I do it for the art, but I also need money to live, so I'm playing a long game. I won't get much from Tapas, but I'm working on other methods in the future when the series has been built well
