Do you have a hateful character in your story?

Okay, let me say it frankly... when I wrote Dieter Brandt, I wanted the audience to hate him, and I actually hated him, but the Arab audience started to love him, and that's simply because I didn't publish the fifth chapter, which would make the majority turn away from him... even though he's bad and evil, his structure is good, and I say it frankly, he has justifications for all his actions, and all the logical details are there, but I can't deny that he's disgusting (seriously, I'm trying not to spoil the events here).

Santiago is seemingly an intelligent, posh, scholarly man, but he's absolutely filled with hatred. He could have had a great, prosperous life but instead he is on a pirate ship, a criminal because he HATES merfolk so much. Dude would rather live on a filthy boat than a nice house if he gets to see a mermaid die. Like most character don't like and are wary of merfolk, but he takes it to a whole new level and I can't wait to dive more into it.

Percival is such a hateful dude. Vampiric kind? Hates them, they're "no smarter than dogs" in his opinion. They should be put down-- unless he finds one attractive, then she should be tamed and domesticated. Women? Females have weak constitutions, can't handle things and needs a man to lead and protect them. And obviously he is perfect as a protector-- as he thinks about SA'ing a woman... as he beats her and dabbles in SA'ing her... as he degrades and insults her...
Percy is the worst, but I still love him. I think I just like writing bad people with big egos.

Definitely. Emelia Howard in my novel "Damsel in the Red Dress" is extremely hateful. My audience despises her lol.

I write a lot of hate-sink characters as antagonists. The trick to them is just pitting them against your hero and showing them repeatedly doing things that are considered Bad Behavior by general consensus.
For example, Elliot Harthford puts his hands on Gwenivar repeatedly despite being told repeatedly that she doesn't like it. He calls her his wife, but she says she would rather die than marry him. He ignores her will and wants in every interaction, intrudes into her room, refuses to leave, gives her things she doesn't want, and says horrible things about anyone lower class than him.
In short, I based him off the worst Incels I could think of. Someone who just refuses to understand what they've been told because it doesn't suit their narrative.
You're supposed to hate him and be happy when he dies.

There's a character in Petrichor that I cannot stand that has yet to be introduced, so much so that I had to name him after two people i admire just to give him something tolerable about him. I want people to hate him too, think he's creepy (though non-sexually), off putting in his words and actions, a real "if intelligent monsters word human skin" type.

I've shown some people his concept art and so far the reaction has been "ok but dark romance ship with the embodiment of the mc's toxic masculinity tho?" 🥲 I'm really hoping that they get the ick once he's on page because help.

Yes, he is German and racist towards Slavs, but on the other hand, he is extremely obsessed with the character of Clanser, Nicholas Winters, and tries to possess him, even though Clanser rejected him and confirmed that he is only interested in women, but it seems that Dieter's mind does not understand the matter... In addition to this, Dieter sees everyone as less than him, and even his younger brother, who suffers from hearing loss and infertility, was not lucky because Dieter always reminds him of his problems. Also, Dieter is the president of Landes des Rômes, although he is a good president, he lies to everyone. He is not democratic and treats opponents very horribly... This is just a simple overview of him.

Hateful in what way? Is it the audience hate them or hateful as in bigoted?

I don't have a lot of data, but my only regular commenter seems to really dislike Alex, which does make sense since his actions are deliberately crafted for him to be seen as awful. However, those actions are not done out of hatred or malice but a result of social expectations to act a certain way, self-loathing, years of built up stress without any outlet, and genuine misunderstanding.

For the characters that are actually bigoted, it is not immediately obvious through her dialogue but Éloise, Corrine’s cousin, is actually insanely bigoted. In her first appearance, she manages to be classist, sexist, ableist, and transphobic. Although the character is also racist, I did not have the space to illustrate it and it would have been way too obvious that her word is not to be trusted. She was actually based J.k. Rowling, on how she pretends to be progressive, but still holds deeply bigoted views.

I have two, but one of them is the worst. At least I gave the audience a satisfaction for what happened to them later on.

His name is FAHAD:

He was task to take down rebel forces but his general named NIZAR gave strict orders to offer their enemy surrender first. If the rebels refuse, then FAHAD is excused to slaughter them to the last man. However, he defied the first rule and went straight to the slaughter despite Lieutenant ANAS'S protests:

However, a bad omen set in just as Anas predict it. A mysterious entity arrive and reduce his own men to dust:

FAHAD himself, ANAS, and his guards survived and retreated back to where general NIZAR is stationed:

Of course, FAHAD would lie of his claims, which is why he gave all of his underlings with ranks, and positions a spy to look after.
