Do you have a story idea you like but you can't do it?

Hi, I'm DanzoKei!

I'm just curious if anyone have the similar experience as me. While I do like creating story that is more light-hearted and slice-of-lifey, I do have a few story ideas that are more tragedy psychological kind that I love. But, I don't feel like my art style would be able to convey the feel or mood of the story I heard from people before that my art style is really shoujo-ish lol. Also, with my current skill, I kinda doubt I would be able to pull it off.

How about you guys?

Yes, I have.
It's an idea for a high fantasy, but high fantasy is a difficult genre. If I will write high fantasy, I believe it is better if I work with an artist. Lore creation is a lot of work.

You're just like me. I just posted in another thread about what my first attempt at making my first comic was like.

I had a good premise I was going for, but I'm still trying to find out how it'll work, paying loyalties/offers to language translators of each country I've sent my robot sheriff to go to.

Also, to find out how to make a story while respecting other cultures (with me being a Christian in mind).

I would hate to use the word "can't" rather than "not ready yet", but yeah, definitely have a few of those.

Namely, I've got a scifi one in mind and my android and background designs are more ready for loose natural type stuff rather than the straight lines and piping and whatnot that I picture while brainstorming.
(At least there's always the option to make a novel out of it instead)

Well, you definitely won't know until you start making it! It's always worth trying. I have a style most people call "adorable" and I am making horror and triller comics More intense and mature style would probably be better, but then I am the only one who can create these comics You can check it here if you want.
And trying new things is always good for you

Comedy because I'm that person who tells unusual jokes with a straight face, or just being unfunny in general.

Also I like it when art style defies the theme (Made in Abyss? Happy Tree Friends?). People also like it for a certain surprise factor.

Yeah I have that kind of troubleee.. I already have my character setting, background story up until the ending for my webtoon but my arts make it looks girly. So I change my plan to romance instead (with crime or mystery genre) and that thriller story end up being wasted, but I do hope I could do the story once I master it or find a people who wants that story.

I wouldn't say cant do it but i do feel limited in what i can accomplish with certain story ideas i have because of my skill or lack thereof. appropriate style is definitely a worry of mine and it's tough to write or brainstorm certain things without other individuals to bounce ideas off of so i feel like im writing in a vacuum.

backgrounds are a whole other giant to overcome so thats yet another passable but difficult obstacle

I can't draw at all, so there is a lot of comic ideas that I really wanna do, but can't because of the lack of drawing ability. I have been able to make a webtoon with a great artist, but she has her own projects after this one, and as such the partnership can't continue, and I'm left with a lot of comics that won't get written.

I also have a lot of other "book"-story ideas, where they are either so complicated I don't feel like I have the ability to do the idea justice (yet), or involves so many elements that I have to spend a long time to proper flesh everything out before I write.

So yea, I have a lot of story ideas I feel like I can't do. Either because the require a collab partner, or because of my own inability and confidence to write them.

And I always feel so bad for my ideas, because it isn't their fault I suck

For me, it's not really that I can't do it, it's more like I can't do it yet.

I've got one that's an Eros and Psyche retelling, but the only thing stopping me from doing it is the fact I have no idea what being an adult is like (holding down a job, going to bars, getting drunk etc.) which is fairly integral to the setting. So RIP.

Another is a story set in college - except I'm not in college yet, so I have no idea how it works. Also I'm afraid that people are going to think I'm ripping off Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl because they're both about fanfiction writers going through college... When I'm not.

I could make it so they're both set in high school, but one thing I've learned recently - I loathe writing about teen drama. I think they're usually super contrived, and I am a teen.

I think the only idea I have that qualifies for "I can't write it ever or at least for a really, really long time" is a fantasy story about a plague - and considering the current events... you know.

Hahaha...yeah. I'd actually like to write and draw a horror action comic. Even though I don't really like horror myself, I can write it decently, but drawing it is another story. My style is really cartoony and doesn't translate to that genre in my opinion.

Like I have all these great monster and setting ideas in my head, but drawing them, they just look so silly xD

I'd want my art for that comic to look like...a Dan Seagrave painting or something(he did Death Metal album covers. His stuff is so sick and cool). No way in heck I have time to learn that right now.

Oh yeah. I've had this concept for a story about a princess and a ship full of eccentric Greek pirates, but 90% of the story takes place on a ship, and can't/don't want to draw an accurate pirate ship that many times.

go, make it, don't feed the feed, you can fail at first but if you keep trying eventually you will be able to pull it off, alow yourself to learn and get out of your confort zone, i understand the feeling, its normal, but you can't listen to it, you have to risk it is the only way to know if you can do it.

Yup, it's a webcomic story with a sci-fi/psychological genre. But with my current skill level and art style, I don't think I'm ready for it. My current art seems to be more, I dunno, chirpy, I guess.

Dozens and dozens. I'll never be able to create all the stories I've dreamed up and it makes me really sad sometimes lol

where to start? Sooo many. I plan to do them but I don't feel Like I can now until I get some more experience.

• A really messed up psychological horror of a young collage student finding themselves trapped in some sort of mess up reformatory institution and wants to get out.(reason I don't have a style yet for it)

• A GL love story about two girls(one's a delinquent forced to accompany the other so that she can graduate) on a wacky, action filled road trip before they graduate with a large cast of characters(Reason: I have no experience in writing romance of any kind thus I wish to build up that skill slowly)

• A RomCom about a girl accidentally summoning a demon that that will not only eat joyfully eat her soul but also make her the world's greatest chef. (Reason: Same as above)

and a few less develop but I still want to do

I have a story idea, it's a GL about two girls who meet in like a camp ( like the NCC camps in India), but I just can't make myself to write.

I have like a premise, but nothing else. It's like my brain shuts down whenever I think about it.
