Do you have trouble memorizing and learning new things?

I have big trouble memorizing new things that I am trying to learn, I want to know if any of you guys have that problem as well ...Too many people suffer from this problem I presume

That depends on 2 things for me
1) it has to be important for me
2) I have to understand it

Example songs.
I remember thousands of songs. I´m a living jukebox when it
comes to song lyrics. I can play songs in my sleep that I haven´t
played for decades.

I sometimes have to learn songs that I don´t like so much, mean
nothing to me, or are too complicated for me. When there are out of my vocal range
I can´t even sing along. Then it takes forever to memorize them + I´m
not motivated enoug to work on learning them.

I was really bad at school because I didn´t care and so I didn´t even
try to memorize anything.

Only if I'm forced to memorize them. Like back in school, they forced us to memorize "catechism points" and lines of Cicero

But if I commit to it, or if I like it like song lyrics, memorization comes easy

I have been struggling with it recently. But I think it was caused by chronic stress.

I noticed that spending less time doom scrolling and avoiding watching mindless videos on social media helped. Maybe brainrot is real.

For me I like to be around people smarter than me in order for me to learn. I can learn some things by myself but that can only get you so far, so if someone smart is doing some of the things I get to do then I get to watch them and learn how things actually works. It doesn't have to be hobby related, just anything, really.

One of my favorite quotes from one of the smartest people I know said it best, "If people stop being your mentor then you stop learning." So, I'm always secretly learning from people.

Both my short-term and long-term memory are poor - I've been like this since childhood, always forgetting things easily, which is quite troubling for me.

Although my learning and reasoning abilities are good in other aspects, my poor memory makes my overall capability only average.

It's like I have a computer with a very good CPU, but its RAM and storage space are both very low. Such a computer cannot be called a good computer.
