Do you like lots of dialogue or few dialogue in comics

If it’s a lore dump I don’t mind as I love that stuff.

I’m struggling with it myself (too much dialogue), so having to rework a few pages and add more panels to space it all out a bit.

I'm a big fan of trying to explain everything as visually as possible, since comics are a visually medium, but I'm not against dialogue. I just think it needs to be pertinent to the story: show character personality, explain important things. I'm just not a huge fan of exposition dumps early on in a story before the reader has had time to be invested. Get people curious, then explain.

I don't really care for comics when they cramp the layout of the pages with tons of dialogue. It's a bit too overwhelming to read. I don't mind lots of dialogue if it's spread out over panels though, but sometimes actions speak louder than words!

I put yay dialogue but I like short, quick dialogue that moves fast in a dialogue based story. I took a playwriting class once and they brought up how most people aren't going to get to say more than one or two sentences without an interruption, I find that is a good basis for writing dialogue in general.

Now there may be the occasional character that gets a monologue, but by gosh keep those super rare XD Most people don't want a wall of text, especially in a comic.

I like variety and don't mind if some chapters are more dialogue heavy while others are more about the mood/ action. Sometimes it's good to show and not tell, but other times I like things being spelled out to avoid confusion. But if I have to choose one I'd take less dialogue option as I read comics for the visuals.

Seems if you have a lot that needs to be said (dialog) then spread it out over more panels. It will seem like less yakkity-yak. It's simpler to show who speaks first, next, next, next & so on (which can get messy if much back & forth is crammed onto one panel). And each panel provides a chance to add images to the emotions & actions & expressions you mentally envision when you write their words.

The less dialogue, the better. It ruins the flow of the comic if you need to fill up pages with words words words words. I learned that when taking comic courses and it really helped me realize how bogged down a page can become from too much text.

Dialog is important to character growth. However showing is usually better than telling. For me the trick is to keep the dialog succinct, but still natural and informative. This helps me avoid walls of text that distract from the art. It’s tricky and takes lots of rewriting and flexibility in the script. One thing I’ve learned helps is to have a character say one thing while a thought bubble shows their true feelings. I have a short attention span and definitely start to get an eyes glazed over feeling if there is a ton of dialog in one panel. Especially if it’s exposition heavy.

Lots of dialogue for me, but it comes at a price. Everything has to be concise and relevant in regards to what's actually being said. I'm not a fan of trudging through filler text even if it's to mimic actual human conversation. I'm even less forgiving about it when it comes to exposition and lore. Make every word count in the space that you're putting it in, y'know??
