I like this forum activity, so let me ask some more questions. As a reader, how often do you pay attention to background/character details? And as a creator - do you put plot - related details on ypur panels and how does this work for you?

I`m all about metaphors and little things, and use lots of foreshadowing. I wonder if people actually care about such things and recognize them later in the story.

That´s a great question.

I read comics quickly.
But there are comics which I love for the art and I usually read the stories multiple times and then look at single panels
for a long time and check every detail, facial expressions, clothes of the characters, details in the background.

Like @Lensing I do a few passes over a page- one to read, one to look at the panels, and one to examine the deets. Depends how invested I am though. Personally I find it hard to parse metaphors and foreshadowing from a story in the comic format. Almost anything on the page could have a role to play in the story months and months down the line and I don't have the energy to commit those details to memory. I don't read things twice, either. I just have too much to do. But yeah, I do enjoy humorous details. This2 comic in particular is great for it.

Interesting question, because I definitely sneak plot details into the background imagery, but I don't usually pay that close attention to other people's comics unless it's a comic I particularly enjoy rereading frequently, haha. I guess it could be considered an added bonus for people who are really invested in the comic!
