Do You Show Your Comic to Your Family Members?

My parents know about the comic but they don't read it. They aren't fans of sci-fi but they are still pretty supportive.

Well, my dad passed away before I started drawing comics, so I guess he hasn't seen my work. But he really loved fantasy stories (Lord of the Rings was like his favorite thing ever), so I can probably safely assume he'd really like my story. My mom has read parts of my comic, but doesn't have much interest in it. (She's not a fantasy person, or a comic person) My husband is the biggest comic nerd ever, and he doesn't follow the story either. He is a very strict super hero type guy. He is very supportive however and likes to watch me draw.

my sister and I started out with a collab comic I write she draws, now thath I am working on a solo comic I always show her the finished pages just so that she can tell me I wrote "seriously" wrong XD

Nope! For two reasons:

1. Whenever viewing my drawings, regardless of gender/race/body type/facial structure/colour scheme, they ALWAYS ask "is that you?" "is that your ex?" Also they ask other questions I don't feel like answering because they won't understand, or care. "why are they naked?", "what are they doing?", "why are they doing that?", -insert confused, passive aggressive comment about the drawing's content here-
   It's sooo annoying.

2. My family (aside from my mom) is full of religious extremists who still say things like "orientals", "whites shouldn't marry blacks", "my grandchild doesn't have MEXICAN blood they're Spanish!", "god hates gays", "the bible says this!" (no it doesn't), "only crazies go to therapy", and other dumb stuff. My comic features queer characters, and mental illness. They would not understand.

Call me a douche, but I don't have the patients to babysit my adult family members.

I show them to my wife whenever I'm unsure if a strip is going too far. She's also currently helping me with my newest comic.

I try to! They're very proud, but they can't read english very well so they're not actually reading the story. They're super involved anyway, promoting to other people, sharing on socials, etc

My family knows I draw comics, but they never asked me to show it to them. And since it has nsfw parts I'd say lets keep it that way xD

My family isn't that interested. My wife is subscribed and reads everything when it is published and looks over my shoulder from time to time. The rest of my family knows I draw comics, I am not sure if they know I post them, they aren't for or against it, it is just a hobby for me, they just aren't really into them.

Though my cousin is waiting a few years to show my one comic to her kids because she thinks they're too young to read comics with guns right now.

Though I show it to my immidiate family members, (with mom usually showing it to everyone else in her family / friends because she's super proud of the work I do) not all of them bother to read it as they don't have time, though most are pretty happy to tell their friends that 'Yeah, Kura works on comics for a living."

I also haven't drawn anything I wouldn't want to show to my family, with my family being really open to LGBT+ issues and me hating to draw sex so I don't really have anything to hide in my comics... a few of the other comics on tapastic though keep me from advertising the comic on THIS site though xD as some members in my mom's family would lose their shit and then make assumptions about my content. (has happened before)

My dad used to be the first reader (and pretty much only reader) of my comedy series I drew in high school. But nowadays I dunno if he'd get Tap over in China where he's working. I gave my parents links to my series but don't know if they read them or keep up, I don't really expect them to anyway. I did make my mom read through all of Erie Waters though to check for any errors.

I did at first. I showed it to friends and family. The feedback they give is never good feedback. It's usually stuff like "Good job" or "I really like it". Nothing that I will ever be able to take back and make my comic better. They aren't my target audience anyway, so I stopped doing it. My mom still follows it on my facebook page though, just because she's my mom and awesome like that!

My family knows I draw but they never really ask to see it unless coworkers ask to see it or whatever else. My mom was startled when I told her I've drawn 200 pages for one of my webcomics through high school, which she found out about during my senior project...

They don't seem to be the type who'd be interested in reading it, nor do I particularly want to hear criticisms that would be of no use to me whatsoever (e.g "why are they male?" ...because I want them to be?)

I do. My hubs actually really gives me some helpful tips, too, which I love.

My kids/parents just like seeing what I'm working on and they give some pretty weird suggestions, but I appreciate them being involved with that aspect of my life if nothing else.

Absolutely not! They roughly know I draw comics but have no interest whatsoever. The only comments I ever get from them are "Why don't you do some nice landscapes?" or "I heard of a person who did greetings cards" or some other artistic avenue they believe will generate loads of income. When you're an artist, everyone knows more about art than you do.

actually i did show my mom and she said caravan was fat(??????????????)/not sexy enough and i need to add in a big tiddied hot lady to be killed by a vampire or itll never get popular

I mainly don't show my comic to my family members because it's going to get h e l l a g a y later on, and it would be awkward if they saw it. Also i don't think my dad is very supportive of that.

The only family member that actually reads my comic is my older brother HA!

my dad follows me on patreon, and apparently he actually keeps up with the updates!

hes the only family member i really show my work to, though. my sister is disinterested, im vaguely guarded, and where i was raised by my dad on his own i just dont share most things with my mum. but its not that im embarrassed of my comics. i guess when i share my art with someone, its mostly because im excited about it, and i think they would be excited too, and i want us to be excited together. i dont think a lot of my family would be that excited.

I do it to get feedback and Motivation. They are like free editors and they tell me if they don't understand a part or if they find an ortographic mistake. And when they don't say anything i check their reactions.
