NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOOOOOO I'm way too embarrassed to show my comics to my family, and they always question everything I write which is both embarrassing and annoying. I think the only person I could show them to after working up enough courage is my brother. Most of the stuff I write is pretty dark/bleak and is a way for me to vent and is really personal, but for some reason I'd be perfectly fine with complete strangers reading them? Idk...

A lot of my family knows I have a comic going on, but only some of them actually read it! (Strangely, my grandma is a fan.) For this reason also, I'm hesitant to put swear words/romance in my comic. But if that's the way I plotted it to be, then it's gonna happen!

@DaniBoy that sucks. I feel like the whole comic making medium is so misunderstood. (Unless you are drawing Superman or something) I used to do sketch jams with another artist friend of mine at the local Paradise Bakery (now Panera) and more than once I'd have people come up to me and ask, "oh is that Sailor Moon?!" And suddenly I feel angry and incredulous. Not that there is anything wrong with Sailor Moon, but thanks for summing up my whole art career into a kids cartoon by a perfect stranger. I can only imagine what its like to have a family that is just disbelieving and unsupportive. For what its worth, I think you have a very supportive family here on tapas. We will support you!

@Lucazu my husband doesn't follow my comics very closely... but he stumbled upon me drawing a scene with a shirtless guy all tied up and he just blushed and walked away. It was hilarious. I think he is scared to look sometimes haha!

@sarrowsmith10 Oh nah, they’re supportive, they’re just very ignorant people. On top of the open dislike for the content I make they seem to think I could make bank if I start selling, or get a job with Disney like it requires no professional experience what-so-ever. Hell, even my dad has this idea that if I were to sell my comic pages on t-shirts I could make a lot of money. I’m pretty sure he’d take my stuff against my wishes to put on t-shirts if I were to show him anything I created, cuz he’s just that controlling about what I do. He’s also tried to get me to “help him” develop an MMO, wanting me to do all the work from concept art to building the game itself, and managing the Kickstarter. Thinking it would take little time and effort.

I mean… I guess you can say in a way they’re not very supportive. They don’t support the decisions I make regarding my work, and seem to think creating is easy despite being aware how much effort I put into drawing? At least my mom and grandparents are more chill, mostly since my grandparents have gotten to an age where they’re just happy I’m around.
But yeah, it would be nice to have them support every aspect… but they are trumpettes, so you know.

Actually the “if you started selling, you’d make a lot of money” is the #1 thing I hear from people regarding my stuff, oddly enough. If only it were that easy. Lmao!
Thank you for the nice words, though! The nice thing about the webcomic community is that almost everyone is fine with what you create regardless of whether they like it or not.

Oh man. Not so far, except my husband. I'm super self-conscious about my writing. BUT since releasing my comic a few days ago I've been getting really good feedback, from a tonne of people I respect, so I think maybe it's time. I could do with their help in hitting 25 subscribers XD

There's a couple of (tame-ish) sex scenes coming up, so I'll be super embarrassed. I don't think anyone will care though.

My husband told his parents I'm making a web comic and now they keep asking about it, so that's another incentive X( I'll probably just post it on Facebook and run away.

My mum read some of it at one time, and started going into a long and deep analysis about how twins in a story symbolizes a struggle within a person, or showing different facets of that person etc. etc.... worse part is it all made sense

My brother wants to read it, but first when it's done, he's not much for reading unfinished things.

Generally my family learned that commenting on my things was a bad idea after I threw multiple hissyfits when they said what I made was nice, because it wasn't constructive enough and that made me angry (I was about 10 or 12 at that point) xD

Eeeh... I tried it, because I wanted them to know where I disappeared for years. I mean, I drew every day sitting next to mum, dad, sis, or brother on the bed, while they watched tv, and etc. But they never asked me to show what I am working on, so I'm not sure they were interested in it or nope.
Once my parents started to read them, because I asked them, but I don't think they were interested in it. I really don't know. But it was so embarrassing! XD So... maybe it's better that they didn't read all of the chapters I had that time. It's kinda the same with my husband. He knows how important is it to me (I guess), but he never asked me to show him my comics, so... I kinda feel I failed at sharing my interest with them.

ABSOLUTELY NO! They say I'm an inmature useless idiot, and if they know I'm drawing comics it will be worse. I have to hide to draw, that's one of the reasons why I can't update as soon as I can. But when my familiy criticize me, I think of the nice things that my readers say about my comic and I smile. My readers mean a lot to me

Family knows about it. Don't really care though as they know it's my hobby.

I did get some cousins' help for a page where a character is speaking Japanese to make sure things were accurate, so they read through some of the comic then.

My mom goes bananas over my comic. My dad calls me his little Stan Lee girl, and my mom shows off my comic to my old teachers at the school I used to go to (my mother is a custodian at that school).

I've posted it up on my Facebook and talked to them about my stories and comics I'm writing soooo they know it's there. It's just their choice if they want to read it.

I show my dad every page of Whose World before I dialogue and post it on here. He's been the biggest supporter of my comic since day one; and it's REALLY hard to make him laugh. Mae, the really selfish and self-absorbed character in my comic makes him laugh the most.

I don't show my comic pages, but I'll show them drawings of the characters from it. I just don't think they'd understand, or really care about the comic itself (plus, honestly, idk how they feel about the subject matter, and I just don't wanna deal with that). I'm pretty selective about who I let see my comic if I know them in real life.
