Do you want to work on your comic alone?

If I was going to make a comic with other people, I'd probably carefully plan it out based on who I was working with. I'd probably need to either split duties writer/artist or penciller/inker or similar, or come up with a really tight set of style guides and model sheets to maintain consistency.

Errant is my baby though, and I'd only let somebody else touch it if I literally couldn't make it alone for some reason and knew just the right person for the job. I feel like somebody working with me on Errant would be less a "partner" and more an "assistant", like somebody to do colouring and stuff. It's hard to decide which I'd struggle with more out of "somebody else being the main artist on Errant" and "Somebody else being the main writer on Errant", because everything about the style of art and writing is just so.... me!

I work on my comic alone mainly to test my writing and art skills. Some people are good at just art, while others have the gift of writing. I want to know if I'm well equipped for both.

If I could remotely afford it I'd hire assistants. But I'd still want them to follow the same general look that the original art/color has, so... I'd probably be a pain to work with, lol.

Finding a partner or an editor who can work well together for a long time is very difficult.
If my comic blows up one day, I'd like a partner who can help me with my work, perhaps drawing backgrounds for me since I'm really bad at it. Also, a proofreader is needed to avoid grammar errors or rephrase some sentences.

While I'm fine working alone at the moment, I think it'll be very helpful to have someone to assist me~

I worked in creative teams all my life when I was playing in bands and I thought I could use that experience
to work in creative teams when making comics but that didn´t work at all. Musicians and comic artists/writers
are completely different and it works completely different.
I tried to make comic collaborations work but it doesn´t work in a way that I imagine it

Aside from a base colourist or assistance with backgrounds, I'm very happy working on it alone.

I quite enjoy sketching, line art and shading so I wouldn't like to hand that over to someone else. Maybe it'd be nice to get assistance for that for pages that are less important, but that likely won't happen anytime soon. And even then, they'd have to replicate my style pretty well because I want it to look consistent.

I would not work with another writer just because I have a very specific vision for my story, and I don't like writing with other people. An editor, maybe but I'm happy just editing it myself and asking my friends for feedback every once in a while.

My projects are very special to me, and I like being able to work on them alone even if it means less pages get posted. I just like that anything I say goes, and I'm able to make my comic whatever I want it to be.

I’m starting to work with a colorist soon but all my colors are flats anyway so its not extremely specific or anything.

I feel like over the course of a decade of seriously working on comics by myself every part of the process feels like ~my process~ and it would be hard to break it up and have someone else look at what I’m doing and understand it. For example, I will pencil a whole page, pencil the dialogue since I handletter, and then when the inkling starts I might completely change the dialogue and the art just because I realized something else might fit better without changing my pencils at all. A lot of my panels you can see the pencil underneath and see it was going to be an entirely different image.

I have worked with several editors but they have all been with companies and so far they’ve all basically just edited spelling mistakes. The type of work I’ve been delivering so far doesn’t really require heavy editorial work.

im honestly comfortable with the idea of working on my projects alone and i think at most would consider hiring inking or coloring assistants but even then its like really unlikely coz i just prefer having full control over everything and not in a like hyper controlling way but more i want to ensure that everything comes out exactly as i envision it even if its not "perfect"

if anything i think im more into like body doubling with other artists or writers where we'd be working on our own projects but not like collabing or anything unless someone wanted help with a particular thing, if that makes sense

I'd love to work on my project with other people, because I really like teamwork and because it would take me less time to produce my story. So far, I'm having fun working on my own story, sure, but having to do everything by myself is truly exhausting and time consuming. I always fear not being able to see my work complete, so I hope that maybe, one day, I'll get to work with others.

In the meantime, I'll try to do my best, although I know it'll take years and years and I might never get to actually work with others.

I don't know if I can find the time to draw... I'm busy with other stuff like advertising, writing, editing, figuring out ways to get the comic monetized/HOW to monetize the comic everything.

I RARELY take breaks when I write so I feel the need to always get an artist to help me out.

Depends a lot of the scale and visual requirements of the comic, for some, i can work on my own, but for other projects, i prefer hiring or recruiting artists.

I occasionally tried drawing for others back in the day but I could never convey the artists' intent properly and it stressed me out. I think I only ever finished one. It worked out because Ryan North was the one adding the words and he has always been a very clever lad.

I also tried writing for others a few times back in the day but we could never see eye-to-eye about authorial intent and how the artist interprets things. The final straw was when I wrote a short SF story with the theme about coming to terms with a bad relationship with a parent and the artist turned it into a heavily-breasted Heavy Metal Magazine pastiche. The lead was supposed to be as bland and normal looking as possible to show that the person with scars can be anyone.

I do know people who can team up and bring it like they were Voltron, but I've always been more of an Android 17.

I can see myself working with an artist for Engram. Truth be told I am not fond of most of the environmental designs or the pencils (specifically for this project, I'm fine with it from a technical perspective), so I would be happy to write and color, so long as the artist's style fits the project a bit more than mine.

Alone, because

• All my notes and scripts are indecipherable messes that make sense only to me, and I can't be bothered straightening it out

• I'll become a huge control freak if money is involved. If I'm paying someone, the work they put out has to be perfect, and I don't think that's healthy for either of us :'D

I do have a dream though that one day my stories will become successful enough that fans will pay each other to make content for it upfront, and I can 'canonize' any of the content I think is good and fits really well

The inconsistency in art in my comic is a major problem.

I would've thought inconsistency would be more of a problem if you work with other people :0

My comic is a very personal project so I don't really want anybody to influence it. Of course it's updating once in a few months because of it but yeah...

currently i am workign on my project alone, and yeah its slow,but for now i am okay with it as i can change things as i go along some while keeping a good continuity, if ever my work become more known then getting extra hands on woud be best, as if i had a inker and colroist and we share the editing , could probably crank out a new chaper in a month or two

Basically, yeah. I'm not really the best when it comes to asking for help. Plus even if I reach out for assistance, I wouldn't be able to thoroughly compensate anyone for their work so I wouldn't want to.

I personally prefer working along side other passionate people whom share that same drive to continue onward for the many years to come. I have an editor whom I depend on when creating my story and she has been essential in my development as writer, web comic paneling, and as a person. To meet it depends on the purpose and drive of individual involved in rather or no the project succeeds.
