Do your friends and family read your work?

A definite yes for me, I started off with having my comic as a facebook page. Most of my friends follow the page but don't know about my tapastic account. Oops better mirror soon. My family also know about my comic and my brother reads it on a blue moon. I'm actually kinda shocked, my friends have started mentioning how they use my comic as inspiration to work on their own comics.

My parents have read the first chapter of Grassblades, but they don't keep up with it on an on-going basis. They have also read pretty much everything else I've done, bar a few oneshots.

My mom reads more of my work than my dad does, but that's mostly because I write 90% of it in English, and my dad's English is kind of terrible. He can get by with basic phrases, but anything more advanced than "how do you do?" and stuff like "turn left over there" and he gets lost. So he mostly flips through the pages and works out the plot from visual cues and makes appreciative noises at the stuff I draw. XD

Yes! I feel the same way with being shocked people find my comic inspirational. Hard to wrap my brain around that!

My family (who were never interested in webcomics, or any of my previous comic work because they didn't understand the humor style) suddenly took to reading Tales from the Well and sharing it around friends and extended family! My little 8-yr old sister uses my comic to help her read (she's a late bloomer). My classmates definitely read my comic (my professor shared the link to all faculty and students that know her), even teachers who I never heard of have contacted me about reading my comic :3

most of my friends aren't into comics or stories as a hobby, especially the kind of stuff i'm into, so i may mention it every now and then but i don't expect them to read it.

i've always been shy about letting my family know about my hobbies. they don't even know I draw a comic.

They know I'm making a comic, and they respect my talent. They are non-artists but have a remarkably good understanding of, and respect for, art. But I'm not the type to WANT people to read my comic/ look at my art/ etc. unless they actually enjoy it. I really, really, really do not want that "I'll read your stuff just because I care about you and want to be supportive" thing. They know this, and they're not comic readers, so they don't bother.

Sometimes it gets depressing that I don't get to talk to people IRL about my passion. But it would get even more depressing if the only reason they read it at all because they care about me -- and not my comic.

That's my family. My friends? Aside from two whom I haven't met in years (one of them lives on the other side of the globe), they're all comic/art lovers I've met on the internet. Sooo...

No, nope and hell no! People know that I make a comic but they have no idea what it is and I like it that way. It gives me much more freedom if I don't have to explain myself.

Family no, they are really cool people and super supportive of my work but I doubt they would get a lot of my comics. I'd like to have them distanced from it anyways. My friends most definitely, they are the main reason I still keep going. The most supportive people I could ask for. At the same time they don't pull punches when they see something wrong or feel like a comic fell short. Even though they are not artists they know I value their opinions as just an audience and I am much better for that.

i put most of my work in FaceBook, so maybe they can read/watch from there... for sure i dont go to them showing what i did as drawing or whatever.

Nonononono... they don't even know I make comics, they only know about my instagram account and that's it XDD
My brother and cousins know that I've been working on it but don't know the name or where I'm posting it.
Generally I've been keeping my comic under wraps from people I know in real life, telling a few friends here and there but telling them to not tell anybody else about it. The reason for this being is that I don't want to feel consious about the stuff I put in my comic, I want to feel free to put whatever I want in it without having to worry about the people I know in real life reading it. (Part of the reason is that it's Romance too, I think if it was a different genre then I probably would announce it more lol)

My mom and dad both read my comic, and they seem to like it even if they might not be the intended audience or understand most of it. They're just happy to see what kind of creative work I do and would support me in anything I do, really.

As for my friends, most of them know I have a comic and a lot of them read it and like it.

My mom knows my main character is named Echo. It's enough I guess. XD
I don't specially want my whole family to read my story. It's nice if they do, but it's okay if they don't. They are still proud of me, it's all that matters I guess.

Yes, my mom and siblings read my comics (mostly Raven Wolf, though mom is mroe a fan of my novel versions of other series I work on) while I have close friends that have also decided to give my comics a try and become fans (mostly No Future, sometimes both)

My cousin will also read Raven Wolf to her daughter (but skip the parts that have guns in them)

My parents know I'm making comics and are free to check it out if they like. I don't think they actually read it, as it's in English, but they like the art. I'm kinda glad they don't try to get into it, to be honest, it's not exactly parents-friendly material.

Quite a few of my friends and coworkers follow my work, a few even bought print versions and merch which is kind of amazing I'm always concerned about people just buying stuff from me to support me as a friend though. But hopefully they do actually like it >_>

The only family member who reads my comic is my sister, who is kind of also my informal editor. She is literally the first person to read everything before it gets released and pretty much helps to better the work where possible, which is AWESOME.

My parents on the other hand don't read it, I'm not even sure if they know I draw comics? They may have their suspicions, but I figured they won't bring it up for various reasons. I also feel a bit awkward bringing it up to them. In all honesty, I can't see my parents enjoying or understanding the stories I write xD

My parents didn't know I wrote comics until pretty recently, and haven't ever read them. But I have six siblings of diverse ages and all of them read my comics and help me out with them a lot! They've actually been super helpful with editing and stuff: they're always pointing out when something in the story isn't quite clear, or when a sketch looks wonky. I have two very small siblings (both under eight years old) and I run all my character designs past them-- if they can each correctly guess if it's a woman or a man, I figure it's not too androgynous. Ha! Add in their ridiculous, loud-spoken love for my comics and they're the most valuable audience I've ever had.

And yeah, my friends also read my comics. Or at least the ones who want to. I have a couple of friends who help me out a lot, too.

Yes and thats why I am holding back with drawing very embarrassing things as the character represents myself. ^^

I have friends I met offline first who read it, but not my family. They know I draw it and take a look at pages sometimes as I work on them, but I don't really want them following it, and I don't think they're particularly interested in it anyway.

Of all my friends only two of them read my work. Maybe if I draw them as the characters, make it about ninjas or basketball, and post it in facebook (since facebook and youtube is the internet to them), then they might read it. But I want to tell my own story and make it really different from the rest. So since they are not reading it, I decided to upload it to a webcomic hosting site... and that's where I got my readers.

All of my friends and family read my comic because Facebook is where the majority of readers all. They even share a like it to spread the word. It's also more of a gag-a-day format so it's easier for people to read on social media.

The best part is when I see friends I haven't talked to in a long time and they tell me how much they like my comic.

My mom does. And a few of my friends. I have a few close friends who will read my work but only the stuff that's in print because they're not big on reading on the web.

But I also have some friends I made BECAUSE they liked reading my comic and decided to reach out to me. One of my best friends, Dana, I met that way. She was a fan of my comic and mentioned it to someone who knew me from school and he was like "Oh, she's chill, you should talk to her" and she contacted me on tumblr. And now we talk every day and she actually just came to stay at my house for a bit a couple of weeks ago! She still reads my comics and I love talking to her about the characters and running ideas past her.
