Does Instagram Ads help? any self promo recommendation?

Hello there! I started my webcomic on Tapas/Webtoon early this month, and I have been thinking to push the views and subs by buying ads on Instagram. However I really have no how effective it will be, anyone here had any experience on this matter?? U(ㅇㅅㅇ❀)U

Personally I used the ads FB offered me (a $10 credit for ads FREE, which is linked to my IG so it created an ad there) and although it racks up some likes - it didn't really amount to much change in following or comments. It's felt pretty empty the times I've done it. (I think i paid like $5 to try in the past.)

Instead, if you want to utilize Instagram for promotion, I recommend trying the following:

• Do a DTIYS event using your webcomic character.
• Participate in art events like inkober/huevember when able, and use your webcomic characters for it.
• Find some people to do art trades with, or mutual shout outs.
• When posting art from/for your comic, remember to use the # webtooncanvas hashtag, if you use twitter...even better! Since the Canvas twitter page seems more active with retweeting canvas stuff from the tag.

Yes, it can be a lot of work haha
But I've seen people use a panel from their episodes and post that when they update to limit extra work to get their comic advertised, as well as to remind people "hey new episode!" (rather than creating a whole new illustration.)

Really though, I think networking is the best way to grow! Support other creators, and lots of times they'll support you back! Engage in the community (whether it be here in the forums, commenting your support on other comics / artists work) has always proven to be the best gain imo. You get friends + support back ^-^

I think ads are hard sell for comics, unless it so highly targeted that you reach intended audience. But even then you are probably competing with comic ads by major publishers and they will have higher reach and spend more money on it.

Agree, no matter how much I think "I would love to participate in this DTYIS" or "I should post more...", in the end I spend the days investigating in all kinda stuff, and I'm unable to keep up a regular posting schedule on my social media. On top of that, what I post is deemed too lewd and I get shadow-banned or they put the post down T-T

The best way I found to reach to people is search on the hastaghs I use, check and comment on others accounts (appreaciate their work, make a question...) and some of them check back, we follow each other, start chatting and become friends
