I started a month ago and it's going pretty well so far but does it being black and white stops progress in views?

Does it hurt the comic?

(Btw shameless plug :d)

I don't think black and white hurts the comic at all. I've seen many black and white comics that do really well on Tapas as well as Webtoon.

In my opinion if you've got a good art style and story, I don't mind if it is black and white or in color. Some comics may even look better in black and white haha!

PS. I think your comic looks great in black and white.

The first chapters of my webcomic where black and white with only red showing, i thought people didn't liked it so i switched to colors and now people telling me "i loved yout black and white style" :joy: so yeah, don't sweat it, people likes comics that are jot colored too ^^

For me, people didn't really take well to my black and white series but when I did the same format but purple people liked it more. IDK maybe I just had sucky art :joy::joy:

Mine is black and white and is doing pretty well. A little slowly first, but now the flow of subs is steady

If its gonna do well here, it's gonna do well there. Especially if the story, your characters, the worldbuilding, etc. is fascinating to your audience.

Unless you're a cartoonist.

I don't think it hurts at all. I do have a 4 panel gag comic though so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I only have had 4 updates in over a year and I've gotten over 100 subscribers and a few comments and none of them are about lack of color. I don't think it feels right to just change my comic just to get views especially if I like it in black and white and so do current readers. Doing it in color just adds extra development time that I'd rather not have.

However I feel like the line art needs to make up for the lack of color to draw in people's attention. Therefore my comic is super detailed and also my comic icon is in color despite the pages being in black and white. So people will see the bright cat girl better than if it was in black and white. If you just go on the discover page the colored ones stick out more, regardless of what's inside the actual pages. When you color things I feel like you can get away with things that are easier to notice in black and white.

Story and quality of art I feel are more important. While reading your comic, while the first update is really good and I feel like the quality has gone down a lot. That could explain the lack in progress of the views.

P.S. I hope you don't mind my critique.

If your kind of Black and white is Beautiful, well thought, and more importantly the story is GOOOOOOD!
Take a look at mine.... (But at the end, I put a COLOR into it, to level it up!)

Thank YOU very much. What is your profile name in Webtoons? So I can know which one is your comment on the list!

Just wanted to add in to the conversation. The featured artist Raul, has a comic, Live Forever. It's in black and white with a tint of red every here and there. The story and art is stunning. So yea, it can work for sure.

It's okay if it's black and white. I rarely see black and white on LINE as well and wondered if it was alright. What you want to make sure of is that it's easy to read and flows smoothly in the vertical reading format. I had a point where I posted some of my old pages of my comic152 on LINE and it got a lot more attention there than on Tapastic, but there were complaints about it being hard to read. (Some were about being black and white too, but mainly that it wasn't in the vertical format)

  • Don't worry about plugs, You can see I did it right there ^ and I'll do it again right here v
