In laptop there is no problem, as @VibrantFox said.
On smarphones is different, here is why:
The parts with your page's content is smaller than the max width available. This scales proportionally in smaller formats like watching from smartphones.
To avoid that i originally make my pages around 940 pixels wide. using all the space available and giving enough separation between pannels....
There is no height limit, so one can make bigger pages and keep the proportions with the width of 940px......
