So I’ve been trying to get myself back into the groove so I can finish book two of Finding Daecon’s Way, and in order to do so I went back and reread book one. I’ve decided that I’m not happy with it. I love the characters, the magic system, the general story, but I’m not satisfied with how it’s written. I’ve come to the conclusion that a rewrite is needed.
And I’ve decided that I want to rewrite it in First Person. The story is now for the most part going to be told through the eyes of Daecon. I say “For the most part” because there are parts of the story that happen outside of Daecon’s presence, and those parts will be told through the eyes of the characters involved. Ever read George RR Martin’s Songs of Ice and Fire books? They’re the ones Game of Thrones was based on and he’s got every chapter told from the point of view of a different character. Each chapter is simply titled with the name of that character. I’m not going to go to that extreme, but a few chapters will be told through the eyes of Owen, Dionysius, and a few others.
Anybody else rewrite their nearly completed stories in the first person? How did it go for you?
