Downsides to using swear words in a novel? Would I have to label it as 'mature'?

I'm just starting to write my first novel on this site, and I'm unsure if having my story labelled as mature would be a benefit or a downside in terms of attracting readers -I figured I could swing it either way just by toning the violence up or down. But I was wondering if anyone could clarify whether swear words are a deal-breaker -I searched through the terms and conditions and I'm still not sure. I just want to know before I start writing and then realise I have to go back and change every 'f***ing hell' to 'bloody hell'.

I consider murder, gore, and smut scenes behind the mature wall. There is no need to censor swear words, it's a bit excessive in my opinion. Usually, you can manually select chapters into mature.

Swear words are not a problem as long as it's not extremely excessive I would say. I use plenty and I haven't turned on mature for them.

I am not a huge fan of swearing overall; I personally do not think cursing adds that much to a sentence. (But that's just me) But if you felt your story needs curse words, I perhaps think of it like film ratings. If you had a chapter that was heavy on the swear words, mark it as mature like @Leverance suggested

I don't think swearing in and of itself warrants a mature rating, but I would be careful not to overdo it regardless. In my experience, an excessive amount of swearing can be tiresome and—ironically—come off as immature. I find it's generally more effective when used sparingly.

Really I use it dialogue. It can add to character and showcase their background. Like if a guy uses excessive vulger swears we already have an idea of them as a person and background compared to the other guy who never swears. It would be more of a turn off if a supposedly crass and crude characters sounds like my milly mouth neighbor without an explanation.

Really no I never swearing isnt mature... period to me. I have other stuff to mark as mature... swearing isn't or my whole book is just M blocks... which would be dumb.

Nothing in my opinion unless you are planning to write something for kids. But then again kids swear too so I don't see the point. In the end they are just words which can add certain characteristics to the characters who use them. Sound them out if you are using swears. I use a lot of cuss words but as long as it seems like a dialogue one could say, it's fine, I think.

I might implement it when Alfredo will be introduced in the next story, but, being raised by Jadie, who is of "Thai" heritage, He did learn a few words... even swears (That she regret He heard at the time) (I have a list of Thai Swears, and i can't stop laughing at saying those when upset)... I don't know if that makes sense but, If a Character swear in a different language than the featured by the novel, It shouldn't make it labeled Mature, Because it's difficult that everyone knows swears of other cultures, if not researched by themselves or being motherlanguage!
Correct me if I'm wrong.
