Drama Lovers! (promotion thread for drama--main genre required)

I've seen a lot of threads on here for fantasy/romance and one or two about sci-fi and action, but so far I haven't come across any threads specific for dramas. So, I decided to make one to celebrate all of you hard-working drama novelists! Come share away!

Yep since it seems like every other genre already has their own thread, I wanted to make this one specific to dramas (as the main genre) because I don't see much of them around

Oh, yes! Finally.

I'll try jumping in. This is the first novel I could hopefully complete. Although there is a period setting, mine focuses more on the relationships than any events influenced by actual Historical events because the setting is made up.

In wonder, what makes a drama story? Because I mostly see it used as a supporting genre

This is the best definition I could find:

an exciting, emotional, or unexpected series of events or set of circumstances.

Personally, I think what makes a drama is how the characters interact with each other. Oftentimes the ways they interact are what causes the story’s main conflict, whereas in other genres it’s usually some outside force. There’s lots of examples of tv dramas, such as “Jane the Virgin,” “The Gilmore Girls,” and “Revenge,” that are based around conflict between the main characters.

...does that kinda make sense?

Side note: “Jane the Virgin” is a specific kind of drama known as a telenovela.

Oof. My story would honestly have Drama as it's most fitting main genre but I feel like rarely anyone looks at Drama so I didn't choose it.

Well my story has a LOT of drama in it! So I figured I can place my story here too.

Yeah, that's kinda curious, innit? When I studied screenwriting, the professors always had a debate whether drama (or comedy) is an actual genre or a "tone" of a show since one could define every show with more than one genre. However, using comedy in the same way isn't quite the same. Sitcom is a pretty popular genre, but for me, I often consider it more of a technical approach or a subgenre if you will. This raises the question, however, what is the show's genre if not comedy, then? Really curious stuff in my opinion, but naturally, tv-series/films differ quite a bit from novels/comics, yeah?

I, personally, prefer using drama tone in my work, but I wouldn't put it as my main genre, maybe 'cus everything above. This being said, I don't have a problem it used as a genre in novels/comics—I'm not adept enough to have a real opinion. Sorry this is a bit long, and it's supposed to be a sharing thread, buuut... it's an interesting topic, is all.

I mainly picked drama because from the way my story is set up, there's really no better way to describe it. There's action and elements of mystery/crime/thriller later on, but for the most part it deals with how Tara interacts with others. I'm kind of glad Tapas recognizes Drama as its own genre because otherwise I really had no idea where to put mine Then again, I'm writing it with the intention of one day turning it into a screenplay, so maybe that impacts how its categorized in literature? I'm not really sure...but you're right, drama usually is more of an undertone than a defining quality.

Yeah, me too, it's great that is an option here! After all, the drama is really old genre from theatre, so, I think using it in literature is a totally different beast also
