Dumb ideas for your comic/novel that you are glad you scrapped

I wanted to write about the different gods of different cultures (West African, Greek, Japanese, Norse, Native American, etc) But then it would complicate things because some gods overlap (Shango in my culture is Thor in Norse mythos) and there isn't much cohesive info on a lot of them (Coyote is viewed differently in different cultures, some gods have 2 line descriptions etc).

I'm glad I didn't go for the "quiet loner" trope. I'm happier with my main character being a super dramatic attention seeker.
Also I was about to make all the characters unlikeable...stupid idea.

You could separate them in different panteons, maybe they have different jurisdictions?? (ex: African Gods take care of people from Africa, Greeks protect Greece, etc..

For the ones that are present in more than one culture, you can make them be "travellers or nomadic deities who accompany their followers whenever they go, even if it causes conflict with other Gods."

Sometimes I think I spend too much time planning my comic, but then I remember that in the early stages one of the characters was a necrophiliac and I’m thankful that I take the time to rein the horrifying influences of my first draft self.

I have a couple for Ivory Weald!

1. Matthias used to have romantic feelings for Felicity rather than familial ones. I ended up scrapping that particularly because of how his character developed--their dynamic in general just ended up ringing brother and sister to me rather than romantic, so that's what I went with (not to mention, I honestly don't think him pursuing a romantic relationship with her would be healthy).
2. Once upon a time, Felicity used to be a princess. Then I did away with that whole royalty shtick and made her an ordinary girl.

Staffinburg's third contributor really didn't bring the comic up to standards, his character names were uninspired. Like Ace, I salvaged a few things and made it more serious, to be taken more seriously.

The powers in my comic used to be kinda overkill. The characters had excessive almost magical super powers that really put the comic at a high starting bar where it would have been difficult to slowly and deliberately increase the action within the comic. It was inspired by My Hero Academia so you know.

I'm glad... in hindsight... that I toned everyone down a bit. It's easier to escalate when you start a little lower in the action department.

when I was like 13 and still writing I made this "hot headed" pyro character.

I still have the character but she's not that typical angry fire thrower anymore

Holy smokes I started writing this one novel when I was like 10, and, needless to say, I pretty much had to scrap the whole thing and 90% of the character because my ideas were so bad. There were like angels floating around and glowing pink scars and robots and stuff. As my sister likes to say, it was 'baby's first webcomic', but in novel form. XD

The only thing I really kept from it was that there was a god--who judges whether someone should die or not-- who fell in love with a mortal woman due to kindness and is sentenced to live a mortal life when he's caught mooning at her XD. I still really like the idea, but man, that book could use a re-write.

In my comic I have the idea of the multiverse, where the same world repeats with differences that can me very small or extremely large. Initially, I was gonna give people from other worlds different physical traits. But that reminded me too much on the trope of humanoid aliens, so I reserved it to only a few extreme cases.

I was going to kill a high number of characters, but my friend convinced me otherwise. I'm still killing some though, after making them hopefully likable enough :3

Initially I made up names and explanations for many things, but then decided that it was too much and irrelevant. If it isn't relevant, I'll let SciFi take care of it.

I had a sci fi idea about a parasite from space infecting and taking over a woman to survive, then using the body to try to rebuild her fallen species through reproduction. Once the children were born, they'd recognize their target and attack on order. But she was too mechanical/not human enough to the person's husband so he felt something off and distanced himself instead. In order to reach her goal she had to become more human.
It was called A[u]nt iirc

I remember having an idea where her nieces/nephew picked up on this immediately and visited their house often in order to "investigate" or some shit

One of my oldest OCs (not in a running comic yet but we're working on it!) used to be a time lord with hair draped over her eye, weird corset dresses, and be seriously OP. Still OP by a bit but so glad I rewrote her.

Relationship drama got cut hard from my comic haha

Basically I had the MC's best friend wind up having a previous relationship with the romantic interest - stuff happened things are revealed and they fight. I didn't like that MC's main female friend ended up fighting over a boy though. Just seems dumb and falls into women fighting over a dude, and didn't really contribute anything to the main plot whatsoever. So goodbye to that

Secondly, MC's best (guy) friend was going to have a crush on her that wasn't going to go anywhere.
I found it boring and predictable so goodbye to that one sided love triangle thing

Oh gosh, that reminds me of an earlier idea for one of my characters just being a copy-paste of the 10th/11th Doctor. Sonic Screwdriver and all....

Oh yeah, another idea for DRGN/DRAGOONS was that the main characters were all gonna be siblings (mostly adopted) and they had a rock band together..... I was 14 when I came up with DRGN.....
