Fake Subscribers Announcement

I just saw this notification and felt the need to comment on it.

When I first joined Tapas, I was swarmed by scam and bot accounts. I blocked and reported them but noticed others kept them to help with their numbers. I'm wondering how Tapas mods can be certain these fake subscribers are associated with the creators they are punishing over this.

It's funny because I reported a stalker for months who kept creating fake accounts to follow me, and Tapas did nothing to help. He was on another platform, so I was able to handle it legally that way.

Now, Tapas releases this announcement automatically assuming every creator with a fake subscriber must be responsible for that fake account and will ban that creator. Tapas does nothing about fake accounts of bots and scammers but will punish creators on assumptions when they decide to pay attention.

That's all I really wanted to say. I hope no innocent creator is caught up in this witch hunt.

(And no, I am not someone with fake subscribers. All of my novels are currently being revised and they are in raw/editing stages. There would be no point.)

I think you're taking this a little too personally. This was a message that was broadcast to all creators and does not indicate that they're accusing you. Tapas probably could have worded the notice a little better to make this clear, but it is not meant as a treat or accusation against you.

I'm not taking it personally as it doesn't affect me in the slightest. Just making note of how the message immediately addressed users in an accusatory manner rather than attempted to understand there are bots here.

Not taking it personally at all. The entire notice put creators on the defensive. It may not have happened to you but there are many of us who have had issues with scammers, bots, and other such fake users, reported them to Tapas, and nothing was done. Many of those left because nothing was being done. Now, Tapas makes an announcement rather accusatory (re-read it) that would address these scammers but chose to still ignore the fake accounts targeting creators through no fault of our own. If you had been through this, you would understand how this feels to the rest of us. We report and report and report, nothing gets done, then when Tapas feels THEY want to address it, it's somehow our fault. Again, re-read it. Put yourself in our shoes, those of us who dealt with harassers here with no help from Tapas, and try to understand how we feel.

I also had an issue with scammers and reported it. The email that Tapas sent can be read in many ways; agree.
However, notice that in your reply to me, you already divided tapas creators into groups: "put yourself in OUR shoes"—whose shoes? Am I not a creator too? Simply because I do not read email from Tapas the way you do? We are all creators here, on this forum, and scammers affect all of us.
