I write low fantasy The setting is a strange world which is connected to our own, with technology and civilization similar to what we have today. That way I can lessen the degree of world building needed, yet still having it quite prominent.
My favorite thing is how it can be very versatile and powerful genre to explore many possibilities, and for me it's the most interesting genre to read. From high to low fantasy, the possibility of rules and what you can create is endless.
What I don't like is how it's sometimes fall flat because of the overused tropes and cliches; the chosen one, sword in the stone, the RPG mechanics, medieval statis and why it's always medieval Europe based, sword in modern era without a reason, villain must be dark demon lord, all evil race, etc. While it's okay as long as the execution is good, it kind of absorb the excitement and when the plot relied heavily to those tropes... It can get boring. Unless it is as a parody.
