Feedback on My New Comic

Hey everyone! I just uploaded the first full chapter of a new comic I've been writing called "Detective Jay." The plot revolves around Jay Fitch who decides to abandon his "acting career" in order to solve the murder of one of his friends. Despite the aforementioned murder, the series is a comedy and isn't meant to be taken too seriously. If it sounds like something you'd be interested in I'd appreciate it if you took a look at it and offering up some feedback, good or bad!

Hi! I read the episode and I think it's really cool! Dynamic, funny, intriguing The art is a little bit rough around the edges, but the simple style makes that less apparent and the art direction is really good! From the panelling, to the style of the speech bubbles, the font and the cool concepts you explore (loved the page that's all black and red!), it's all very solid and goes a long way to hide the slightly wobbly lines and slightly off anatomy. You will improve your technique over time and until then the strong art direction will more than make up for it. This is a very strong start!

wow dude, i am really impressed. jay is kind of an asshole, but i also love asshole protagonists. i thought i'd be turned off by the simplistic art style, but it actually is one of the comic's many strengths. you're not afraid to tackle sight gags, experimental angles, or enticing compositions and the art and overall tone definitely reminds me of the early days of paranatural. also, i'm endlessly impressed by the fact that the whole comic seems to be hand lettered, but that doesn't take away from the overall look at all and instead definitely adds to it. but just for your own health in the long run: as someone who is 150+ pages deep and originally tried hand lettering, you might save yourself the tendinitis and either make your handwriting into a typeable font or download a proper one

that being said, i was so drawn in by the artwork that this splash panel really threw me for a loop

by taking away your striking outlines, it really looks like a whole other artist did this one particular splash panel and not in a good way. with flat shapes like this: vector or bust, my dude. those edges should be as crisp as your linework.

consider me a follower, i am really excited to see where you're gonna go with it!

Thanks so much for checking it out! Glad you liked it lol And I totally understand what you mean about the splash panel. I tried to get a little experimental here and there so that's the reason for the sudden change up. Really appreciate the follow too! Hope I can deliver something just as entertaining with the next chapter!
