Fiction Fusion Frenzy!

We all know that dreaded saying, "oh this reminds me of _____", but since we're all content creators and everything has been done before anyway...why is that so bad? Oh no, someone thinks my comic is just like ANOTHER wildly successful thing going on right now? Honestly, we should start embracing that! Isn't that the whole point of us sharing out art so that others will be inspired to make their own?

Ok, talking aside, here's my fun exercise if you had to describe your comic as a mix of any already existing media what would it be? I'll go first. My comic is about three girls chosen to fight evil and save their town on the daily. It's best a mix of Buffy the Vampire Slayer + Powerpuff Girls + Charmed (1990 version).

That did happen to me, with my third comic (now in eternal hiatus), i introduced that some characters could become weapons, so a lot of people in the comment section mentioned it was very similar to an anime, that i didn't watch it, but, yeah i can see why it sounds similar. At least my characters were...humanoid fruits, so at least it can't say i'ts copy/paste, but still did surprise me.

Errmmm I suppose the formula for my novel would be:

Ancient Magus Bride (minus the power imbalance) + Venom (minus the superhero/villain stuff) + Phantom Thread (minus the poisonings)

Also @sadghost, if it's the anime I'm thinking of, that's not entirely unique to it either. In Shaman King you had spirits transforming into or possessing weapons. In the upcoming dating sim/dungeon crawler Boyfriend Dungeon you can literally romance your weapon.

My novel was just taking a basic premise of a yakuza game and formatting it into a novel... with more gay because it IS me writing it.

I dunno if anyone is giving you a hard time about it being too similar to something else try adding a twist or extra layer to make it more interesting.

Couldn't agree more with that! I read/heard somewhere that it's impossible to create something that is completely new nowadays. What matters is how we add our own personal twist to the topic to make it uniquely ours.

I would say my current novel is a mixture of Hua Mulan and all the historical dramas revolving around Empress Wu Zetian!
