Hi everyone! Wanted to connect with more Filipino creators, as I'm Filipino myself currently living in NYC. I thought it would be fun to get to know each other and include some of our Filipino favorites whether it's your favorite dish, celebrity, word etc. For example...

Ah man, does it count that my people live in the Philippine Sea, ( Guam)
it is much sadder that I do not know anything from that culture but except we have things in common.

I wouldn't mind seeing some Filipinos over here on tapas, might be a learning experience for meh ┐(´д｀ )┌
(I do believe my people came from the Philippines or somewhere near that area )

I have seen one of my past classmates showed on how they greet each other,
I believe it was bowing and putting a hand on yer forehead (tell me if I am wrong its been some time ), I thought it was pretty similar to ours, since we also bow and Amen the elders but instead of putting the hand on the forehead it is smelling it.

I've checked out your comic you have and it is pretty cool, think I needed to find somethin that wasn't really "lively" since I have a lot of those in my Library .

Hello. Filipina here who have never stepped foot outside the country. I haven't watched that movie yet, but it was hard not to miss it since some famous lines and memes are still mined from that movie.

Yes, in here we do that as a show of respect to elders. We do that for older relatives especially grandparents. Teachers also count. Sometimes, children also do that on Christmas to get pocket money.

I remember when I was much younger and was still in Guam we would always Amen the Chamorro teachers every school day, I had did this also to my Grandfather a couple of times and as well with some kids in my age group (it was for a dance thing ) back then, but people there barley do that on the land, it is like a dyeing culture because of other country's coming into the land and mixing it with ours

So uh, I see the similarities in the culture with the Amening

I do think the islands that are above Guam speak and do the culture more Commonly then there since Guam is a U.S territory

Hello there, Filipina here~ I never stepped outside the country yet ( I was suppose to travel last year but I have to postpone it because safety first ^^)
I don't really watch tv most of the time but if it's celebrity, I would say a few of them are my schoolmates (and at some point blockmates) in college.
There are a lot of filipino dish I like but I always go back to that Mamon and Tablea that my Mamay (grandmother) makes every time we visit her in the province.
I met some of our fellow comic creators here in the philippines, and also some here on Tapas and Webtoon -- which also happened that I know them in person because we've met at comic conventions / shared a table with them.

Yeeesss, the creators I've met so far are awesome people who are very supportive of their fellow creators~ Also most of the comic creators I've met here are actually independent, according to them it's either the publishing houses in here tend to favour a certain genre and/or they don't have too much freedom in their story so they choose to be independent. ^^

Hey guys! Filipino from the US here, I'm gonna be checking all of these out to get more in touch with movies and media I'm always excited to see other Filipino creators/characters!

I love our food so much, especially hopia, palabok, afritada, taho... list goes on and on. I think the jokes within our culture are funny, such as pointing with our lips, "ang taba mo" then "kain na!" leaving the last piece of food, Filipino Standard Time, and silly nicknames. Does anyone have a funny nickname? I never got one growing up

Oh hello~ I do have a funny nickname, it's true that they love to repeat words when giving you nick name for example mine is 'jing' (thanks to my my grandma) and they tend to repeat it.
my favourite part was preparing food for christmas and new year (I was the one in charge of it ^^)

@Eiranyx that's true, one of my filo friend (tho i'm somewhat filo myself xD) got rejected many times by publishing companies in the philippines and she publishes her work online in tapas and WT instead.

Well based on my experience ( I actually helped a junior in her research/thesis about the comic industry in the philippines and it just so happened I know a few folks who are in publishing) and we both observed that most of the publishing house tend to maintain their company image that's why they tend to favour certain genres and styles like for example, that publishing house is known for publishing romance stories - they tend to prefer romance writers/ cute romantc artstyles. If they mostly publish action/superhero they prefer marvel-ish art styles -- you that kind of thing.

But because majority were indie creators in the comic community here in the philippines, one thing that's never lacking is diversity ^^
