As you all know writers camp is coming up again and I am kinda interested.

I have mostly hated English and writing since grade school so I never thought I would want to do something like this; however, scripting for my comic and talking with writers has made me become more interested in writing now. I still prefer comics since my ideas are so visual and dialogue-based, but since I could do a novel so much faster the idea of doing this contest sound super attractive! (and it gives me an excuse to go on a longer hiatus ;D)

I feel very confident in my writing abilities. But I have some questions for all of you!

What format do you use? What types of stories do people like? How long does it take you to write a chapter? What’s your process?

Feel free to link to your novels btw!

And here’s my comic if your interested:3

For format, the only thing I require myself to do is to keep each episode only 5 pages long.I have no other advice than that other than to try and keep each chapter pretty short XD. For the types of stories people like, if you're looking for subs, definitely BL. There's just tons of traffic if you get to put your story in the BL category. But of course, you should always just tell the story you want to tell--whether or not it includes BL. It can take me anywhere from one hour to three at most for me to write a chapter--I like to be pretty thorough in the editing and I like to make sure the continuity is good and that something of interest happens each chapter.

My process is just to know generally where I want the story to go, even if I don't know EXACTLY where it's going. Like, I'll have a major plot point to get to and in the meantime I'll choose how I want to get there and make sure I develop all the characters along the way. Other than that, I like winging it. XD I can't wait to see you in the Writer's Camp and I'll be there too~!

Here's my story from the last camp!

Good luck out there!

I write about 1-2 pages for a chapter although I do suggest shorter lengths because it makes it easier for readers. It takes me 1-2 weeks to write/edit a chapter. I finish a chapter in less than an hour the editing is what I take time on to make sure the plot is consistent and entertaining. Plus it creates a small buffer. I split my novel into three parts basically beginning, middle, and end, that way I can keep track of my plot and make sure I'm not dragging anything out. In between I take a break maybe post some character info/drawings and that's my format.
Ratscout mentioned above me about what readers like, but again write what you want to write.
Definitely know your plotline before you write. Especially for a competition you need to know where your stories going. Writing an outline or at least a summary is good. I right about two pages just a really long summary about what's going to happen. Of course I might change it here and there but for the most part it's what I'm sticking to and keeps the story consistent. Also make sure you know your characters maybe build profiles of them and all. These things you also use when making comics so apply that here as well  and good luck!!! I'm looking forward to reading your story.

Ah thank you very much! I was actually wanting to write a BL story but I thought it might be a bit taboo XD boy was I wrong!

Haha, heck no! If you look at the collection from last camp almost all (if not all) the ones at the top with the most subs are BL XD. It's a really popular genre!

I've found I need to pace myself. I had power and internet, but went stir crazy doing nothing in the hurricane, so I churned out chapter after chapter after chapter when I should have stacked them up to two, three times a week. Now I'm afraid people will expect 5,000 words a day.

It's possible, but either I'm gonna burn out or I'm going to explode.
