A huge aspect of the novels is that he has a figure of a bird etched down the fuller of his sword and also tattoo'd on his hand.
It's a plump little bird with a hooked beak (somewhat like a parakeet beak) and it sits on intertwined vines that have one trefoil leaf. In my mind I've always only seen the etching so I'm not sure of the color. I think (I hve to go back into the books) he describes them as being very plain.) What is unusual about the bird is that a small flock of them can strip a cow carcass in about a half hour. They're very sweet if left alone but ruthless otherwise. I would love that type of thing and for a banner could actually just be a repeat of the bird along the vine. Does that make sense?
This bird and vine motif is repeated on his waist sash over his tabard and on a book where it's actually more along the lines of filling in the area aka Willian Morris. I'm not asking for that much work, I'm just trying to give you as much information as I can think of and different things that are in the book for reference.
There is a point in the book where he is trapped in a black marble pit and the birds and vines cover the walls. And there is another point where there is a small coffin that is etched with the birds but then they are filled in with mother-of-pearl and gems like you would see on the beautiful marbleworks from India.
Background could be like a sword's steel. One instance the bird is embroidered on leather. There is the marble, of course, and the rose quartz. His household color is blood red. I love the kind of swirly backgrouds you find in Chinese Drama posters (just throwing out into not asking for specifics)
Yes the thumbnails have to have a square ratio. I'll try and find what Tapas has for size. Almost forgot, the etching on his sword is in gold and silver. But I don't say which is which (vines or birds)
