Friendly reminder to make your backups UwU

I update all my comic files into Dropbox once a month or whenever my PC starts acting funny. Waaay too easy to lose something (generally Photoshop has file recovery every 10 minutes so the crashes don't bother me TOO much tho) and old pages, lore pictures, reference sheets, even scripts and character notes, all that can disappear before you realize you needed them too.

Personally, I'd recommend and online backup service. If you're not too squeamish around menus, Backblaze is more of the more affordable options and the one I use. ($60/per year)

If you're prone to forgetting to make manual backups like I am something like that is probably a good idea.

I treat it like insurance. Yeah its $60 a year but then I have totally confidence I won't lose more than a few minutes of data even if my computer catches on fire.

All my back ups are on Google Drive. For the longest time I didn't have backups( and for some reason Back Up and Sync wasn't working on my computer). Eventually it was able to work and a few months after that I had to do an entire system reset on my laptop. Fortunately I had my back up or I would've lost a year and a half of artwork and other files.

I save my comic and art stuffs to usb flash sticks; once I'm usually done with a chapter, I then save a copy on my external hard drive. I have a copy of the CSP folder on my usb stick so that way I dont have to hunt down all my brushes; I can use the folder to reload all my brushes to CSP should my laptop ever crash(like it has...currently having the issue fixed).

I also save all the work I've done on my laptop, separate usb sticks and after I've done enough pages I copy everything onto an external hard drive. I always carry the usb sticks with me because I have this irrational fear that my house is going to burn down. I currently have two in a little minibag and guard them more ferociously than I do my wallet.

My tower (don't use it often) has an issue with it's power source or something built-in to it so it will... just randomly turn off like it's gotten overheated (it hasn't). So... I have it kind of built into my reflexes now that after every sentence I write and every few strokes in art, I hit CTRL+S.

Agreed, Clip's backup has been a lifesaver for me. In addition I've been saving my entire art folder to my google drive and to a USB weekly, if I lost everything I'm working on I'd be beyond devastated

My hand now automatically pressed ctrl+s after around 10-15mins. This is due to me losing 4k words of essays for assignments in my first year of uni (3 months worth of research). So I made it a habit of pressing ctrl+s for every paragraph. Repeat for 3 years, it became a habit 🤣

Randomly turn off? It might be PSU to Motherboard problem. Have you tried unplugging and replugging it? How long has it been since you cleaned up your pc?

Yep, yep, yep. It makes a horrifying screech from inside the tower (pretty sure it's not the speakers since they're seperate), and then it'll just restart of it's own accord. I gave up on trying to fix it and operate on my 2 laptops mostly. I've done some digging into it, and it's not a WindowsOS error so it's something built-in to the hardware. From what I've figured out it's likely a faulty power source. It's from 2012 so lol not "omfg work!" but it's funny cause it's a Dell. e_e Those machines never have worked great for me. shakes fist angrily at Dell Your laptops are utter shit and your desktops are moderate shit!

Screech or beep? If it's beep, check how many beeps it is and how long it beeped. Might be memory error. But since its from 2012... You might as well upgrade the whole pc

Sometimes I go as far as to save something only once, when I'm finished. It only happens with stuff I can start and finish on the course of a couple hours or maybe a day. I mean, I'm usually far more cautious than that but still happens from time to time.

Can't afford to so no point to and it's a screech not a beep. Just goes eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee then restarts. (my upgrade was the laptop i got this year. i just rather use desktops cause various reasons)

my ASUS still works and i got it in 2009 ish. just needs a power cord my upgrade was to a lenovo but 1 it was on sale at costco so i get a 2yrs warrenty, not a 1, and 2 it's advertised as a gamer's laptop since i wanted a yummy graphics card.
i've had 3 dell towers and 1 dell laptop. 2 of the towers have had BSOD issues, and the third the screeching (and a faulty BIOS where i lost control of my keyboard within owning it for a few months and had to call dell tech support and get a download strictly by using a mouse cause the keyboard driver was dead). the new tower i got for my mom works pretty well but i'm 99% sure it's not a dell. might be an HP - it's not yummy as my laptop, but it runs 10 and can be a decent gamer box.

my mate had one of those moments recently he knocked his external hd off and it hit the floor and caput! 3tb's down the drain collage work, pictures ,movies all gone. I felt so bad for him

I still don't trust cloud solutions with my personal stuff, so I run a windows 10 image backup software: https://www.handybackup.net/windows-image-backup.shtml It's pretty easy to configurate it and it's pretty reliable - I could lost my data once, but thanks to it I could recover the whole bulk.
