Genderbending Your Characters

Just out of curiosity: has anyone ever gender bent their characters out of curiosity? Just to see what your story would be like if your main characters were the opposite gender? Would it change much about the story, or not really?

I actually did that permanently with the character of Takeru/Fubuki for DRGN. While I was working on it, I realized that I should change the gender of one of the team members so it's not just one girl not counting the major side characters. So I decided to replace Takeru with Fubuki. However, I decided to keep Takeru by having that be a name and disguise she takes while do assassination and mercenary work.

(I've bee planning on gender swapping some of my characters for funnies, had an idea for a really funny joke involving that for Edible Green Tea.)

Also, we already have a gender swapped version of my DRGN's Flare, it's @Chita's Flare!

I genderbent my characters once out of boredom, but I feel like their personalities wouldn't change at all lol.

also I sort of accidentally designed Frances (pink hair) to be kind of androgynous, so her female and male version look almost identical.

Haven't tried this yet. I think it would actually affect the plot a little, but might try drawing my characters genderbended someday just for fun.

We permanently ‘genderbent’ Thea (originally Theo) because she just worked better as a character in the story. We didn’t want to totally erase her history though, so she’s transgender (I’m also trans so her storyline will be handled respectfully and accurately).

She’s super cute and I love her! She’s a music producer who works closely with the main characters’ band and she collects plants!

My characters are robots.... so not really to be honest.

I've genderbent my main characters before XD
Honestly if they'd switched genders, it's hilariously more fitting

It would actually not change a single thing to the plot. I can't get gender roles IRL so that's also how I write my characters.. My guys and my girls are pretty interchangeable.

I should try to draw them as the other gender though, once. Just for fun

Gender tends to be one of the later parts of my character creation process, so my design phase will usually have a few different gender drafts

Ah, good question. I think in my case their gender is so irrelevant that I can totally see them in a gender bent filter and it will be the exact same. Same plot, same love interest, same dynamic. In fact, my girl Farah is written like a girly man.

I've never drawn genderbent versions of my characters, but I sometimes would think of genderbend names for them if I'm super bored, and how'd they'd be if they were all the opposite gender

I think it can be very fun, and I'll definitely draw art about it someday.
But I'm afraid that if I'll do it in the canonical plot, than some of plot twists will start to seems unnatural... if possible at all.

my characters are so androgynous that i dont think anyone trying to do a gender bend would know which way to... bend

I think my characters would act exactly the same.

Some of them might dress a little differently?

Their hair would all stay the same I think. Andrew would still be spiking their hair with hair gel as a girl.

Haha! I wish I did not hate the scroll format so much, I so wish to read your comic. But the format is really too uncomfortable for me
Is there a way to shrink the size of the displayed images on computer? (on phone is too small, on computer is waaay too large).

uhhh. on phone i find flipping it sidways helps, and on computer you can just press ctrl + - to zoom out

Even if they are both different gender it will be still gay af. ^^

For the phone, that's what I do, but it's restricting so much what I can see. If I was exaggerating just a bit, I would say it's an insult to an artist to look at their art through a minuscule rectangle...
Oh my I did not think of Ctrl - even if I use it all the time in other situations. Would still be better if only the image was smaller, but that will do. Thanks
