Eh, it depends, some anima adaptations differ from their source material quite a bit... for example Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro is one of my all time favourites mangas but its anime is... mediocore at best

Yeah, I agree.
It just a bit strange to think about all the stories we been told but haven't thought about in awhile. Like remembering you really liked something at the time, but you're not sure what.

I'm a sucker for newer animes

Newer anime did gain traction after the big 3 appeared but there are some great pieces that haven't been surpassed by the new generation. Especially in comedy and romance.
Shonen/action anime are better with the newer generations.
In the old generation they did have action, but what made them great wasn't the action. It was the philosophical ideas behind the anime.
Let's be honest you don't watch an action anime for their ideas you watch it for the action. Those old anime had way less action but a better philosophical message.

That was only in the anime kids could watch today. The other great action anime (like black lagoon for example) had lots of violence and were pretty dark. It is not something any kid would be allowed to watch unlike shounen.

There are bunch of series that I enjoyed enough that I didn't regret watching, but I didn't enjoy them enough to put in the effort in seeing in full. So...

Konosuba (Funny with great VAs but wears out its welcome)
One Punch Man (Concept and writing not as strong as Saitama but Mumen Rider is a king)
Sailor Moon (As repetitive as Power Rangers)
Great Teacher Onizuka (Repetitive as well)
Urusei Yatsura (Could be very funny but aged poorly)
Dirty Pair (More for the design tone and vibe than for any solid episodes)
