Give Me Your Monster GF/BFs!

I have a strong need for monsters! Like the title says, but specifically I’m looking for your monster love interests whether, girl/boy/nb/trans whatever they be and whatever relationship they’re in, I just love monsters and the stories about them for inspiration!

Bonus points for creativity!
Novels and comic welcome! (I’ll be looking for comics personally

Personally I would really prefer it if your characters weren’t humans with just:
Sharp teeth/nails
Glowing/weird eyes
Horns/antlers
Atypical skin colour (red, blue, orange whatever)

But please still show them off! I love to see new designs!

All four together can look neat kinda like this guy, but I want the truly out there ones too!
All art styles welcome! No matter what ‘level’ you’re at ^^

I’m looking specifically for comics because I’m working on my own comic with a monster SO, and I want see how people visualize their own characters and their dynamic ^^ But since this is a basic thread I’d like to add for people to advertise they’re writing as well, I may not follow it, but someone else could discover your work through this thread!

Or if you just want to show off you’re character designs/references too I would LOVE to see/gush about them!

If I end up really liking the work, besides liking commenting or subscribing, I may also draw fan art for warm up/talk about your story on a discord stream ^^

Ba-BAM!

Anax is the main monster in my series Secunda. It's a novel but I love drawing the characters from it and you can find my illustrations of them on tumblr, insta, or twitter.

This is essentially his second form of existence after his original exoskeleton was shattered. His species look like what I would describe as insectoid gorilla wolves in their first lives.

Like here he's formed his mist into his original shape.

Basically Anax can't 'live' without a host. When a creature comes under his skull leftover from his original exoskeleton, he'll be 'activated' and his body will flow out as a mist that can shapeshift, usually taking a shape after the host's form. Hence why he takes a somewhat human body shape when he's on Patience. (I've got more lore about how his species works on Patreon)

What inspired his design initially was the popularity of skull monsters, but I wanted to put my spin on it. I also like the shape-shifting abilities of the Venom symbiote (and all the slimey goodness) so I molded that in as well.

In Secunda's sequels I've got more monsters planned, but Anax will remain throughout~

I gotchu, fam. As of now, my monster S/Os are human-like in nature. I've slowly descended into making them more warped and abstract, but my beginning works are definitely more human-like.

I've got Adonis from My Demon Valentine

At the time, I really just wanted a gorgeous demon with inhuman features. He has claws for hands and feet, your standard tail, and three eyes. He's a Demon of Necromancy, so his abilities are kinda messed up XD But as time went on, I decided to add more abstract features to him. I decided to do that with my AU-story for My Demon Valentine:

With this, I was able to really experiment more with different looks for him. He took on the name Adoniem (and Sandra became Priscilla) and got all of these abstract, kinda mysterious looks:

Annnd we have [REDACTED] from Our Universe (but her human name is Christina).

And only a glimpse of her "true" form.

Again, I started her off as a human-like being as well, though the more I dived into the story, the more I realized I really like monsters that hid their features underneath all that human skin. Kinda gave me room to let certain features slip out and become noticed. And since [REDACTED] is on another level, it really gave me more room to explore all those different features. I think this episode was one of the best ones for that:

OOOOOOOHHHH wow my goodness that is a gorgeous design and even the background world building about him is such a cool idea, I remember seeing him before but it’s been awhile!

How have I not seen your work before?? I know I was kinda flippant about human aspects but the way you twist them is so creepy but in the best possible way! I love that idea too, monsters hiding under a human shell are totally valid and wonderful, it makes it all the better when they are seen as what they are!

I’m subbing My demon valentine right away and will be back for more ^^

yeah mines nothing special and doesnt come from an actual comic. it comes from my book of art and the character i have drawn is marvels but i made him scary so uh- yeah ill stop talking just look at it.

actually does this count as a monster i think it would but not actually sure help on that please?

Honestly! Whenever I look at the Monster Spectrum in terms of design, I know I follow between human-like and complete abstract. Slowly been trying to develop towards abstract stuff, but like...the human part just sometimes hits different. As a result, always following people who are able combine them in a seamless way.

Kinda a bit reason why I adore Folk Horror. The aesthetics just hit.

Yesss -- there is just something uncanny about a perfect human form. Like it always feels fake, and that's kinda what I want from my monsters (when they do have human forms). Almost like you know they're too perfect to be real and turns out they're not XD

I hope you enjoy!! I've got a few Webtoon shorts with more monsters that I'm planning to transfer to Tapas. Just gonna finish the entire stories and then bam -- monster babes everywhere.

He looks pretty freaky to me! The (blood?) from his hands is pretty unsettling and a missing eye with a scar may be something anyone could get but kind add up to like a whole kind of Candyman situation And Candyman is BY FAR the most swoon worthy movie monster in American horror so You’re doing well!

yeah its blood lol. it took me SO long to shade the blood and such. Only thing i think i rly messed up on was the arm he is bringing up. it just looks weird lol.

Totally right with you there on folk horror and the uncanny valley, just a little bit off-human is enough to get me whole invested in whatever dark secrets this guy/girl is hiding!! I’ll be checking I out then! I prefer tapas because it allows me to support other artists better, but I get the appeal of the webtoons fan base ^^

I think if you want it to look a little more bendy, adding the elbow in the middle where the arm drops down into a ‘U’ might help but either way, I got the gist of it! Readers will more often than not fill in the blanks as long as the concept is there ^^
