Has an author's personality turned you off from continuing reading a story?

I'm currently reading /following hundreds of comics over 4 sites... You best believe I have a reason for following each of them. If that thing/reason changes...I will drop a title like a Swedish DJ drops the bass at an EM concert.

Nobody got time to read things only because I LIKE someone.

I don't usually care. I separate art from artist. Which is something I learned from the music I listen to. I don't follow band members. I follow their creation and talent in application.

As for comics...it's the same. Unless the author has specifically and personally caused me grief, I don't care. If I like the work, I like the work. But again. I don't follow people, and I also don't expect people to follow me, either.

Dude, there were SO MANY creative people, especially in Hollywood, who in the post-2016 era just would not shut up about talking about politics, to the detriment of their actual work. I'm very politically engaged so I understand, but some people just spent the last four years nonstop talking about a certain you-know-who, and not in a particularly intelligent way either. Regardless of what opinions they had, it did turn me off some creators' work a bit, especially higher-profile authors.

lol I haven't been on that site in a long time, but depending on the genre I think I know who you're talking about lol. Wattpad, back when there was a forum, generally had a nice community, but there were a few folks that were very rude and also very vocal.

Oh, wow. I'm surprised. I never heard of other people feeling iffy with their personality before. They're usually praised despite the obvious unlikeable attitude being presented and all that. It sucks as well, my friend and basically everyone else in that side of Wattpad see this author as some sort of standard when writing the genre to be honest.

The forum was one of the highlights of my time there as well. I can still remember the time where you have to keep reloading the page in order for the new replies to appear. When I explored the forum after leaving the website years ago, and this was before the forum were removed, I recognized some people still talking to each other in threads I used to go. It sucks that it's gone now.

I don’t mind people mentioning politics, however the issue with this person was they had a very extreme view on everything and made political comics based on very little understanding of political issues. Even their gag comic shifted from a silly slice of life to being rants at companies over character design.

Oh god I remember dropping someone who'd do just that on Twitter. They were right, but it was every day QRTing someone to go "how dare you, insult insult insult, that's wrong", or vagueposting in really obvious ways that started to feel like gossiping. As good as the art is, if it's tiring to look at their account what I'm even doing following them, really? And eventually just dropped them.

When a particular artist in Tapas used to create forum threads complaining how their "deep" and "nuanced" comic about a teenage girl had only a few hundred subs compared to some "hack" korean or "progressive" comics that had a few thousand. It was the Dunning-kruger effect in action.

Oh, and another artist who took my leaving and coming back to Tapastic personally for some stupid reason. Talk about an inflated ego. Get over yourself, girl.

I usually don't unless I have a personal beef with them, they've done something truly egregious, or I just find them insufferable in some way, shape, or form. (Like bragging about how great their stuff is when it's not super up to snuff if that makes sense.)

Mostly, I try to accept that people are both flawed and also have unique personalities and interests and sometimes people just don't click with you even if they've done nothing wrong in particular.

At least, that's how I've always viewed it anyways....

Right, that's what I mean too. Very strong opinions, but not a very depthy view of those opinions, and then that shallow stuff takes over everything and then the creator only ever makes stuff that feels like rants from then on. It's happened to quite a number of people over the past few years (though I bet you it will completely disappear in a few months once there isn't an "easy reason" to have all those strong opinions... even if it's too late for them to reverse their public perception).

You'd have to like do something pretty egregious for me to hate a comic enough, like kicking puppies or something. If I drop a comic based on the person's mundane drama, it gotta be a pretty boring comic to begin with that it's not worth putting energy into. I can ignore internet flamewars the author makes if the comic is good enough.

Hasn't happened with comics, but it has happened with artists on other platforms.

One kid just kept posting callout posts and being overall just agressive. I just didn't want to see all of that teen drama anymore, so I unfollowed them.

The second person had a pretty cute artstyle, so of course I had to follow them. They posted pretty often and I looked at every post. In one post they talked about how good their art is. Nothing bad there. In another post they talked about how famous they are. They did not stop posting about how good they where. I just could not follow someone like that anymore.

When or If I ever had said or done something that steppede over some toes, I have always apologist directly and tried to keep the drama out of the public debate, and take the debate with the persons involved.

I wish more people understood this, to be honest There's tons of good media out there by wonderful people to enjoy, someone saying "hey maybe don't support this creator in particular" isn't the end of the world.

I'd say I'm more likely to check out/read things from people I like because... I'm interested and curious about what they're up to. And I like to support creators that I think are doing good things, whether or not I follow their work.

I don't want to support works by creators that I find personally "questionable" but I would probably still view/read/watch/etc. Like I prefer to buy the Ender's Game series second hand, for example, but I still read and enjoyed it!

First of all, I'm not that popular
Second of all, nah. So, I couldn't say if they were promising or not.

Though one person did get very upset with me that declined collaboration with them and they told me I was being selfish and I didn't want to share the spotlight and help smaller creators. It was bizarre.

And I did block an author on Tapas because they were starting to be creepy. So I did drop their series as a result of that.

That wasn't the best move on their part, in my opinion. I mean, I understand being disappointed by someone saying no to collabing, but guilt tripping someone? It's good to respect people's decisions if they have respectfully declined. It's their choice. They're not trying to be mean by saying no and people should be allowed to say no. A "thank you for your consideration" is a good response, but what they did could cause problems for them if they continue that. Even if one person doesn't do business with you, it's good to keep good relations with everyone regardless because:
1. They might change their minds later.
2. They might have connections with other people and if their friends or associates ask for advice on said person, they will probably be honest and not recommend that person if this is consistently a problem.
3. It's just not respectful etiquette in my opinion.

Hopefully this was just a one time thing, but if this creator is consistently doing this, I hope they become a bit more mindful and respectful in the future.
