Has anyone else heard about Tapas shutting down?

Hey all, been while since I've posted on here, but I just heard that Tapas/Kakao might be shutting down by the end of the year?

If so, what are all your plans for where to go next with your comic?

As for myself, I moved here when Smackjeeves shut down back in...2013? So this isn't my first time lol.
I've always crossposted on Webtoon for my main comics, plus my neocities site for my older comics like Journey of the Soon Forgotten. I've recently also started posting on comicFury as well.

Logging back to my tapas account after months because I saw the news. It's grim tbh. I wonder what will happen to comics and novel you purchased, and the rest of the inks you own. And if there's a good alternative for community comic and novel aside from webtoon.

Great, just great. I can't be happy trying to fulfill my dream of becoming a comic book artist, no. I couldn't get a job at any publishing house in my country, and now that I'm switching to webcomics, this is what happens.

Speaking from personal experience, we're all (nonpaid/noncontract series creators) gonna be fine.

Just make sure to back up your pages now, in case the site goes down early.

It sucks. Especially if you've been focusing on Tapas as your main place for your webcomic.

BUT there are alternatives. I personally use Comicfury as my main place for my comic Voidchild. But there are others as well.That dream of yours is far from over:

Yes, if this is the only place you've posted your comic on make sure to backup all your stuff if you do decide to continue somewhere else.

Gosh… I suppose Instagram and tumblr are gonna have to do. Maybe in the meantime till I find another site, I could improve the art of the comics I uploaded.

God, I just learned about this half an hour ago for me. I'm shocked that this happened. I was planning to reboot my webcomic on Tapas, but now it seems I'm going to have to find a new platform or maybe create a new website. Seeing that Tapastic is going to shut down by the end of the year, I made the decision to delete all my works on the platform and move on.

Yes, i heard and it left me to wonder if the community comics will be deleted unless transferred to a different site and if the tapas original will be relocated to the english version of kakaopage which is where tapas will merge at the end of the year.

Ok... I'm not gonna lie, I'm SCARED. If Tapas shuts down is this only the app, or this entire website? I have a LOT of work here.

This is going to be interesting. Depending on how the merge goes this could be a good thing for the community, or it could go terribly. Either way, it's a win for KaKao entertainment. Tapas it one of the two biggest webcomic platforms, this would make KaKao Page the second biggest and don't have to compete with themselves.

All I can say at this point is, it looks like a slippery slope.

Edit: I read an article somewhere where apparently a majority of readers on Tapas are female. It's possible genders also have something to do with this since I know their competitor tried really hard to get male audiences to read on their platforms. This could get ugly... Stories catered to girls don't really receive positive feedback from grown men.

If they do shut down, it’s so over for me for real.

This was the only place where Crescent Blue had a sizable audience with the exception of DeviantArt but in that case, I’m not sure what the ratio is is of people who actually are interested in my stuff there and people who want to goon to my stuff. I stopped posting to comic furry a while ago because of how awfully outdated its ui is, GlobalComix is better suited for series’ format but I get no traction there, and don’t even get me started on webtoon.

I was planning on making crescent blue a YouTube first series since late July as I’ve become burnt out with comics but there is more on the line now than there was before. I’m definitely…probably cooked

I was planning on just running my webcomic series on this site and trying to create my own- I'm done with Webtoon...but since/if this site is going down, I guess I'll be creating my own site. I kinda had a feeling it was a matter of time; Tapas has not been screaming success [loudly] over the past 3-4 years...

I'm not sure about a lot of other sites out there, especially since a number of them seem to be using some degree of AI in their functions...so I guess we'll see where I land.

This is pretty much the same for me...would be nice if I could cash out my remaining "ink" balance by year's end(a nice parting gift)

I just relaunched Struck By You on here exclusively. I didn't like Webtoons and now I have to be forced to go back...I really appreciate my fans and sense of community on here

I'm a webnovelist that has been on hiatus and was planning to come back. Right now, I'm only seeing alternatives for comic people here. There aren't too many alternatives for web novelists. Sad that Tapas is going be gone.
