Oh, well, I'm sorry if the main point I was making didn't come across clearly enough and seemed to mostly offend you instead. I'm not trying to say I have more "free time" than others; some yes, but others, no.
Your spending 80 hours at high school is not my problem though, and holy hell, if that's no exaggeration, and you're actually spending 16 hours a day at school (assuming you go 5 days a week excluding weekends; if you're going on weekends too, then it's roughly 11-12 hours a day), then clearly you're either very passionate about your learning, your school operates on a VERY DIFFERENT level than most schools around the world, or you really are exaggerating, because 80 hours a week doing something you're not getting paid to do? Same goes for comics. It's ~* rIdIcUlOuS *~ (and frankly a little frightening! > >)
To me, you should not be sacrificing that much sleep for something if there is no serious gain on the other end.
Whether you're living off your comics, or your comics are that precious to you (and I know something about personal attachments to comics; I've been working on my own for 10 years now, and the comics will take another 10 to draw, that is a long time to work on one series), you won't be able to work for long if you ruin your sleep schedule and do damage to your body by not giving it that important downtime to repair and rest itself; that's what the point of sleep is in the first place. Next to eating and keeping your life as stress-free as you possibly can, sleep is one of the most crucial things a human needs to survive.
To me, staying up all the time, getting 0-5 hours of sleep every night and running your body into the ground for something that you're probably not getting anything out of yet - although you call it an "attestment for persevering" - I call it irresponsible, and calling it an "attestment for persevering" is simply romanticizing a slow and tired death.
If you're stuck in the workplace - whether it's your job or school - for 80 hours a week and you didn't volunteer to be the one to put in 12-16 hours a day, but you still have the passion to want to do a comic? Well, I applause the fact that at the end of the day you'd want to come home after that and still want to draw, but I shake my head at the thought of putting your health at risk for it. It means you need to get your priorities together and come up with some better schedule so you can become more efficient, with finishing your work -and- your comics, and still get a minimum of 6 hours of sleep.
And I know some people are gonna get iffy with me for being like "well if it doesn't make money, you shouldn't lose sleep over it" because yeah, some of us are that passionate about our comics. But that doesn't mean you should be putting your health at risk, because if you end up getting sick or running your body into the ground because of it, you won't be able to do webcomics for long, and your passion will run out when your body does. I know I love working on Time Gate, but for now I still have to suffer through my retail job and all that junk I don't want to do because I know I can't live off it yet; so for now, I'm just going to update it when I can, get as much sleep as I'm required to get so that I don't have to suffer through the next day and do any more damage to my body (I'm already a vegetable hater, I can practically feel the heart attacks stacking up > x >), and I'm not going to kick myself if I miss an update or two if it was for the sake of my health. If the readers know you need to sorta, you know, stay alive, so you can keep making the content they love in the future, they will understand.
In the end, all you can ask yourself is, "Do the ends justify the means?" Was that lack of sleep worth meeting your Kickstarter deadline so you could produce your first printed editions of your comic? Probably, yes, and to those of you that have done this, or at least worked very hard for something like this, I salute you! Was that lack of sleep worth the single page update where you only have 50 readers and maybe get 100 views a day? I don't think you would have lost any readers or any sleep if you had just left it until tomorrow this one time. In this case, you have it a lot easier than those artists who really are busy all the time with their own projects, whether it's Kickstarter or being a freelance artist, working for a company, etc. and you shouldn't take that opportunity to sleep for granted.
Humans need sleep, guys. No romanticizing or showboating about it. Just like water or food, without it, you will die. It's okay to pull an all-nighter here or there every once in a while, especially if you just really want to keep drawing and don't want to go to bed! Those are the fun times because you know you're really enjoying it. But if you're feeling forced to have to stay up all night every day to work on something that may not ever even get you anything in the end, and your health is at risk for that, you need to come up with a better battle strategy to ensure you get in work, play, and comics, and most importantly, SLEEP.
But I digress. Don't want to start a debate, just getting my two cents out there
If you can function on a couple hours of sleep a night and are that passionate about your comic and you're not running yourself into the ground, and that's what works for you, good job ^ ^ Just keep an eye on yourself.
