Has anyone had a problem with changing art style during chapter? I'm really satisfied with my new coloring style and rough, more organic lines but still testing. I experimented slightly with the technique between pages, so the prior ones are a little different than the most recent15.

If you're doing something for a long time it's only natural there will be changes in how you conduct things. My series5 has a drastic change in quality between my first strips to my last strips. I think we all secretly want to do what we do, but vary it up over time.

I can definitely see a big change in how I draw my characters, how I plan the pages and in my overall art when comparing early pages to my last.

Maybe its not that big of a difference to others but I really feel like I change a lot smile I think its common with webcomics that the style changes (sometimes drastically) from the first pages to later ones. I actually think it is kind of cool to see in comics. Some people make a thing out of it. Like having a new style for each chapter. I think that can be really cool. smile So I don't think changing your art has to be a minus. As long as the characters are possible to identify ^^

I don't see it as a problem, honestly! When you're doing a story that's gonna take Literal Years to finish, style shift sorta comes with the territory.

Yep! Not massively so, but it definitely has. It's kind of the nature of the game when you draw a comic over the period of several years, especially if you work on it very regularly.

You're doing a TON of regular drawing, which means a ton of practise, which naturally means your style shifts and evolves as you learn new things and acquire new habits and stuff.

hmmmm yeah. my art style is slowly developing, all the time, and thats brushing off on my comic. ive created it in a way that allows me though; theres a ~pretentious metaphorical reason for it, and im decidedly giving myself breathing and learning room.

Mine changed too along the way.
The 1st pic is a panel from early in my comic. Same character. Aside from that I'm now coloring my comic...my characters had umm...strange chins back then O.o

Yeah, it most certainly has! smile The first chapter of SPEJS1 was made 2015, and I'm now working with the third chapter. My work cycles are usually that I ink and draw a new chapter every spring and then work with other stuff the rest of the year. I'd say with each chapter, I get a better grip on how to draw the characters, panel layouts and colors.
I actually did notice that Gav had beefed up quite a bit between chapters (and there's maybe a week or less between chapter 1 and 3) XD

My drawings got a bit better I think, I'm happy about that but I cringe everytime I see my older pages D:

Even the pro's art styles change over periods of time. the only difference is the pro's art styles take longer to change due to them mastering their art. people that still have a long way to go will have more to improve on and so their art style will change faster.

Put it this way...look at all the newspaper comic strips running today and see how long they've been going and look back at when they first started.

Does Garfield the cat today look like he did when he was first appearing back in the 1970s? Nope.
Even long running web comics are the same.

Peoples' art changes over time whether consciously, unconsciously, or a bit of both.

I didn't think my style changed that much until I went back and started recoloring my old pages.

This is a recent page of mine...

And here's one from back in 2014...

Definitely see the differences particularly in my main character in both.

For me, I wouldn't say my drawing changed but more like it evolved. In my perception, my drawings still has the same feel in them but it's becoming better technically and I think it's normal especially if you're drawing almost everyday.

I like seeing and comparing my old art with my recent because I feel so accomplished.

Oh yes! I've been seeing both a change in style slowly over the years as well as an evolution in technical skill. It's awesome and something to be excited about, I think! smiley Get excited!

for some reason the forums hate my computer and don't allow me to upload,so my example won't have anything to do with my comic, but the problem with a longer comic (and plenty of hiatuses for entrance exams, uni, health etc) is that you style will change, mostly for the better. I feel like as long as you don't go drastic with it (as in adapt a random animu style overnight) you should just celebrate that you're improving, and don't try to force yourself into a tiny box of mediocrosy just for the sake of the comic looking exactly the same.

I started my comic in 2009, so I'm rather glad my style doesn't look like that anymore, and is more consistently like 2012-2016 version.

Oh yes my art style has changed. I think it is still recognizable as me but I like to think I am getting better.

Honestly, the more you draw the more you refine your art. A lot of it is the result of small changes, like modifying how you draw an eye, incorporating a new technique for line art, etc. It can also be influence by using new tools, or getting comfortable with new tools.

I knew going into my comic that I would learn and evolve while I worked on it. It can be tough to look at my first chapter but ultimately when I complete this project I will have "leveled" up so my next project will be more refined.

My characters seem to change style in every panel. Cant seem to maintain consistency in my drawings.
