I found out that Dig Dug has one of the craziest/realist backstories of all time. So get this...
He was on top of his game back in the 80's, Was successful alongside Pac-Man, married one of the first female video game protagonists (fun fact: Samus ripped her off with the whole "you're actually playing a woman astronaut" reveal), and had three children, one of them being Mr. Driller.
Mr. Driller would later get his own series, he would become more successful than his father, Dig Dug would become a glory hog, this became so stressful for his wife that she decided to divorce him... yeah.
Not sure if Namco High (made by the Homestuck guy) is canon, but if so, Dig Dug would become a principal and reveal that he's wiser than his son gives him credit for.
I dunno... I thought this was fascinating. I heard all of this from this video.
The rabbit hole gets deeper when you find his wife's name is "Kissy" and she got that name because she can't stop kissing people when she's drunk. I'm just wondering if THAT'S how they met or the implications behind how Mr. Driller was really born. There's evidence to the contrary since Kissy IS still trying to make the relationship work what with her getting mad at Dig Dug for missing an "appointment" (I'm guessing counseling). Also it seemed at one point she really did love him.
Seriously, I honestly didn't know I'd get THIS invested in a character's relationship like this. I just feel so bad for Dig Dug because Pac-Man has everything together. He has his wife, his kids, a dog. His whole personality is that he's a family man. Do you think Dig Dug gets jealous sometimes? They DO live in the same universe after all.
Oh yeh, btw this canonically happened. Just a little window in their relationship:
If you're wondering the Klonoa guy is responsible for this lore lmao.
