Have you ever looked at all of the episodes of a comic/novel series on Tapas?

The question says it all. I doubt any of my subs have read through all three seasons thus far of The Action Fruit Society . Especially considering each season acts as its own series. The reason for this was to for personal organization and to actually keep track of how many people would be willing to jump from one season (series) to the next.

It's roughly the same formula modern comics take. You start off with a story which can take you from one comic title to the next, and if you really want to get an in-depth understanding of what the plot's about, you have to go out of your way to pick up and read through multiple titles. An example being:

As of 2020, this is Marvel's current crossover event. It has titles from the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Hulking (he's a Kree and a Skrull). I find it enjoyable to read through so many comics, especially when it comes to big events. Then again, I understand that comics are expensive and a real chore to invest in.

So again, the question is, have you ever seen all of the episodes of any of the current comics/novels that are in your library (continuing or completed series)?

Only few because most of series in my library are still updating.

Of course! Multiple even. I have both premium and free to read comics and novels that I've finished reading, most of the stuff is still updating.

All the comics I'm subsribed to I follow pretty diligently! I don't like to subscribe to stuff I won't read lol.
If I find a long comic I want to read once I have the time I'll just bookmark it on the computer so my notifications aren't clogged up with comics I'm not caught up to.

Yeah, I hate not starting from episode 1, even for the gag a day comics.

Not the best at keeping up with updates as they happen, I'm usually a binge reader so I like to let them collect.

Of course XD I tend to binge read since I have a harder time keeping up weekly with comics, but I'm trying to get better at that XD I still have a lot in my library I'm meaning to binge too. Since I like to do it in one sitting I need a bit of time set aside for it.

That being said. would you all follow a continuation of a series if say, one series ended, but then either a sequel series, prequel series or spin-off came out?

I'm also trying to tie this thread back to the idea of the "overarching storyline" I mentioned earlier that maybe some people feel their story is too convoluted to fit into one series so it helps to branch them off.

I actually tried this with my previous version, where several other comics were tied into the main comic. I do not recommend it as it's hard enough getting readers for one series, and most readers will not seek out the connecting works. So you end up having to try to market several stories over just one and will spread yourself thin, inevitably with very very few people being interested enough to seek out all the connecting works. This is one of the reasons I chose to reboot my previous work, so I could condense it all into one work.

If you're perhaps a big name in the comic world like CLAMP where most of your work is well known individually then it can work all right perhaps (like with Tsubasa and xxxHolic) but otherwise I think it's a huge waste of energy and high risk for not much viewership.

Now a sequel or continuation series would probably have a better chance of doing all right if the original did well since the audience for that work is there more for that, vs doing side stories connecting.

Tbh I admit that I treat comics I subscribe to here like I do real books: I collect a bunch of them that seem interesting to me and then read just a few of them or parts of them. But I did read all of Vamp Sabbath and 00:00-- The Midnight Village, or at least what's available at the moment. I've also been binging a few series on Webtoons. Maybe someday I will get around to reading all of the comics I intended to read XD.

Yep then I get mad when my binge comes to a sudden and tragic end when the story is put on hiatus, like two years ago.

Yeah when I read a comic or a novel on Tapas I treat it like a book and read the entire thing at once--which means I then get really behind when things update, but I just ignore my notifications tab (it says 18 updates right now. wtv.) and...eventually I will come back and just read a good massive chunk. And I've read some pretty long ones.

Ah, I'm sorry if this sounded discouraging. The comics industry, personal habits, as well as the entertainment industry as a whole have certainly changed over time. But I think the upside is that it is also easier these days for more artists and authors to get their work out in the open, so there is a huge selection of great works to choose from and it is hard to know where to start with a busy schedule! In my case, it doesn't help that I have the attention span of a potato haha but I do take the time to appreciate the works I get around to reading. Especially if I see a drawing technique I like, I will take a few minutes to try to study it.

No, all good your post was just a reminder how hard it is today for even the majority of decent artists to receive reasonable payment, the more people treat their efforts as regular consumption - eg. treating as a disposable commodity work that often has taken 100s of hours to create; expecting stuff for free, yet still demanding more & more for free etc. I doubt I'll choose to persevere with my own art long-term, so mine was more an expression of sadness for others ...
