If you tagged your chapters mature I think that hides them for a bit, I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it does affect your story's exposure. Looking through chapter one, I'm not sure why you marked it mature. I didn't really see anything explicit that would need to be tagged, unless it was because of the bit of cursing? Generally, you only really need to tag a chapter if there's explicit sexual content or graphic, realistic violence.
You also mentioned coming from a fic background. I also started out writing fics! One thing to keep in mind when writing original stories is that they don't come with an established fanbase. If you're writing fic, then you have people who know and love the characters and are ready to read more stories with them regardless of whether they are AU or not. With original fiction, no one knows your characters, so you need to make the readers care about them early on if you want them to care about your story and keep reading.
I read through your prologue and it was pretty well written, but starts a bit slow. The first half is a little dull with no one to really focus on, it's not until the latter half that we get some intrigue between the two characters as we see a bit of their relationship. So, as a reader I might be iffy on continuing because there's little for me to grasp onto. I don't know enough about the story to care about the war and I don't know enough about the characters to care about their relationship and I also don't know what to expect from here on out. What's the conflict? What are the stakes? What's the hook at the end of the chapter? If the prologue can find a bit more focus and end on a point of intrigue, then I think that would help a lot with having readers return, and that goes for other chapters as well.
It also just takes a bit to build a readership. If you continue to update regularly and your work's quality stays solid, there's a good chance you might be featured on one of Tapas' lists. I got featured not long after I started because I had consistent updates and decent enough writing.
Other than that I would just recommend advertising your story on other social media sites, be active in the community either here or on discord, and don't forget to add a link to your story in your forum profile! People might want to check out your story after chatting with you, so make it easy for them to find it! If you want to cut back on people landing on your first chapter through your links, go to your story's info page and copy that link that link that will take people directly to the info page instead of the prologue, like this
Mostly, just have fun and try not to stress about numbers. We all start out at zero and sometimes it just takes us a while to make progress. Your writing is good so just have fun writing your story and stay consistent with updates.
