As the title says,
Can anyone recommend me a good comic that has great use of light and shadow and is in grey scale?
I'm trying to learn how to shade better and I would definitely sub if I feel I can study from it.
Thanks everyone! Means the world for your help
Here's a few I really like! There's merit to grayscale comics but keep in mind it can't be used as a substitute to the shading used in coloring; people appreciate something with very good grasp of value, or contrast so crazy the attention is all on the characters and midground.
Thanks @Iris-Grimoire
I will get to reading

Check out Thistlewine, if you want to study something with softer shading that still looks breathtaking:
And, uh, not to self promote, but my comic is in grayscale and uses mostly the inks to get effective shadows. I guess it's up to you to judge if it's great or not, lol
A couple of my favourite really polished greyscale comics:
This one uses manga-style screentones:
This one has nice crisp flat greys and characterful cartoony lines:
This one combines the two:
EDIT: I forgot this beautiful hand inked one!
Thanks so much for sharing Thistlewine!
It's beautiful! I will study this

I am making a colored comic but I have a greyscale flasback in my latest episode. Even when I color I always use desaturation layer to check values and see if it's enough contrast , and wheter the focal point is most bright or dark, or if foregroound is darker than background or vice versa and they do not mix into single flat plane. And you can always use histogram to see the value (tone) range of your image. When you figure out basic values for your picture - like fore- background it's easy to find values for shadows on objects - because they mostly don't intersect
you can expand to see ful picture with my notes
Thanks for explaining your process.
I will take a look at your comics, probably sub. Thanks!
