I got a himbo in my novel and I love writing him that way. xD
He is actually really socially smart and can pick up on people's general mood and feelings with a look, he is also very malicious, often using that to his own self-servient ends... He can play stupid almost as much as he actually is, which makes it really hard to separate his jokes from his actual self.
But seriously, never ask him a general knowledge or even slightly trivia question, the answers can range from downright nonsense to bafflingly stupid.

The himbo hierarchy

Kronk
A rank himbo
B rank himbo
C rank himbo
D rank himbo
E rank himbo
F rank himbo

So are himbos really required to be nice? Because I feel like Gaston is a himbo, but maybe he's just a ye olde frat boy...

Mr. Peanutbutter from Bojack Horseman is definitely a himbo, though.

Himbos for those who wanna know exactly what that means, but are too lazy to google it. Replace beefy with muscular or buff if you're unfamiliar with the term~

I'd argue it's more of a balance, characters like gaston fall more into the 'frat boy' side, a himbo can have a mean or smart side, or both, but they must have a bigger goofy side that is the core of their persona.
Like they have a super smart character hidden beneath the layers of stereotypical dumb, and you have to actually pay attention to see it.

Think Steve from 'Stranger things', Or Joseph Joestar from 'JoJo'
They are considered himbos, and they have both smarts and some kind of 'mean spiritedness' to them, while still having lovable traits that superseed those sides.

Mythological Ares is kind of a sad edgelord who attempts to be tough for his dad. Not to mention he is in an affair with a married woman. He is the god of brutal warfare and never was quite as popular as other gods on the Greek Pantheon. Most of the time he is mentioned he either is boinking Aphrodite or getting his ass handed to him, like in the Trojan War. He lacks a lot of the good-natured vibes and chill nature of a proper himbo. He isn't very lovable. He is more of a blood knight than a gentle giant or a lovable jock
