How did tapastic build this community?

Does anyone know how it all started? Where did the first readers/artists came from?

How did tapastic promote their website?

How did you guys discover it?

I'm pretty sure there was a contest of some sort to bring in artists and the rest was word of mouth. I don't remember exactly. I found out by reading an interview about tapastic.

I found it because friends of mine started using it and tweeted about it. Then I wandered over and had a look and discovered it was a pretty neat place.

I'd really be interested in hearing the story too. As for me, I think like a lot of others I first heard about it on the day I learned Inkblazers was closing. Everyone was saying, "Well I guess we're all going over to Tapastic now."

I read a blog post saying how bringing your comic here will gain it lots of followers.... , but on the upside I have met lots of nice people in the forums.

Someone came to my picarto and said "you should check those websites for your webcomics". And that's pretty much it. Another friend used Tapastic while I was only on Inkblazers and told me the good benefits of Tapastic.

I don't know much about it's history and I don't really care all that much (Though I have heard some questionable things on their original rights to comics/art policies from artists that checked the place out back when it was comic panda)

For me, I discovered it as... well, It was advertised as just another sub par comic hosting mirror for me.

Game stepped up a bit when they introduced the support program.

After inkblazers shut down and I lost my income from there I moved here because of the support program.

Now... meh... just another comic host I guess.

From what I know Tapastic started out small when Inkblazers (mangamagazine) was up and still running. It was the main site every artist used until it shut down then everyone switched to Tapastic or created there own web site. Some are even using Webtoons now.

This place used to be called comic panda. If you type comicpanda.com into your search bar, it'll redirect you to Tapastic.
