How Did You Choose Your Comics Name?

I'm planning to possibly start a comic in the future and I plan things ahead A lot. My ideas just a Comedy thing, nothing new but thinking of names is hard, I first thought of the name Brutally honest but in less than a minute I remembered that it's Deya's comic name. Then I thought of "Ignorance Is Bliss" but that was taken too (even if the guy last posted 2014 and only has 12 comics). I tried changing Ignorance Is Bliss in the bad translator but for whatever reason, it won't work for me then I tried just translating it normally and using that. The name was too long for my tastes no matter what language I used. I am stumped with names. Any tips on choosing names?

Well, I think you want it to reflect your comic as best it can. Most of the time I just use mundane words and put them together to say a little something about the story. Demon House, Heavy Horns, Erie Waters, and At Ease are my titles here on Tap.

Thinking of some comedy titles in movies, they're usually short and pretty catchy like Superbad and Hot Fuzz.

Yes, short and sweet is great for comedy titles, you're on the right track there! Have you a specific hook you'll be using? Maybe you can integrate a particular gag or social pun that's often used in your comic.

I didn't name my stories (the comics borrow the stories' titles) until I'd been writing them for a while and noticed some consistencies and important themes I wanted to capture. Usually I go through a couple tentative titles before settling on the final one.

maybe look for a segment of some famous quote or phrase - like Trouble Enough or Collective Ignorance or Blinding Idiocy

Or you can gather up the work you've done so far, before you start posting, and see if there's anything that really jumps out at you. Was Ignorance Is Bliss something that you really liked? Maybe you can work a new spin on that. Ignorant Bliss... Ignorance Vs. Bliss, Blissfully Ignorant... etc., etc.

I chose mine "get a grip" and "A glass half empty"
because its memorable due to being common phrase, and because it suits my characters in G.A.G my character is quite whiny so its as if i imagine the viewers coming and bitch slapping me while saying my title. A glass half empty will have a character who has a pessimistic outlook on life.
So i suggest choose something catchy, memorable and relating to the comic like idiot savant or something.

What about "Blissful Ignorance"? It hits on the same themes as "Ignorance is bliss", but it's shorter.

Zip Kramer - Savior of the Cosmos is an action comedy send-up of heroes in the vein of Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon. The cadence and humour of the name seemed natural.

I struggled for a while with Grassblades - it was difficult to pick a title that didn't feel pretentious or that spoiled the entire story. It spent a LOT of time being named "Masahiro-verse" (as in main character's name+[uni]verse) while I tinkered with possible titles. I still have the scribbled notes somewhere, page upon page of suggestions and ideas where none of them fit quite right.

I started getting a bit closer to where I wanted to be when I remembered that I always liked the titles of Lian Hearn's Tales of the Otori-novels - specifically Grass for His Pillow - and Kim Stanley Robinson's Years of Rice and Salt. I wanted something that felt similar to that, but at the same time, it needed to fit the story and not give the whole thing away from the start.

So after MUCH tinkering and changing my mind, I finally settled on "Grassblades", because it reminded me a bit of Grass for His Pillow which is a lovely title - and partly because the "blades" bit of the title is a wink to the fact that Masahiro's got a sword. XD

Basically, I started looking at themes that fit my story (nature, grass, something to do with swords, etc., etc.) and then just tinkered with it till I got it right.

I keep a list of words that I like how they sound, are unusual or sound relatable to my stories.
With my current story a friend sugested zombie madness, I hated the idea of using "zombie" in the title of a story about zombies, but I liked "madness" because my story is very weird.
I already had in mind using "bite" because it also sounds like "byte" and my protagonist is a robot, so the story ended up as Bite Madness.
I have other story where my protagonist and his group are evil and want to destroy the white kingdom (the good guys) and each of the group is cursed in a different way, so I named the story "The Damn Damned"

ChloroFluoro: Deciding on a name is always understandably challenging. You want it to be something unique but what I think is that the name that should mean something to you. You need to choose carefully because it isn't just your comic name but it'll become your brand. Since it's a comedy, you could always go for puns or a title with alliteration to make it memorable. For example, you could use something like Funny Art Farts, (ok not a complete alliteration but it's catchy and memorable, plus it's not taken yet XD) and/or similar titles which will make people interested and will want to look it up. West was easy to name. It's where they're going, where Jed lives, where the problem is. I didn't think twice, it just was what it was.

I knew I wanted something that was one word. Technically it's two words, but I combined them together because that's what the kids do these days, what with their hamsteaks and their DraMatical Moiders. And since the story is highly centered around the future, technology and electricity, I wanted something that would suit that theme as well. I'm not sure when, but one day the name 'ElectroMania' popped into my head- I thought it fit! It symbolizes an obsession with electricity, so I stuck with it and still like it :3

It took me a very long time to figure out what i wanted to name comic. But i thought about anime and movies similar to it like outlaw star, gundam wing and said well I'll just name it like they did and name it after the main characters ship los emeraldas there is more that goes into the name too. my comic Bomb A named randomly. I randomly pick Bomb as my protagonist main power and A for Class A from my school. hehe
