How did you find your favorite webcomics?

Hello everyone!

I was planning to promote my comic more aggressively (woof!) in the coming months when I stumbled upon the realization that I don't really know how to. Sure, there are tons of relevant tips out there in the wild wide web but none them really resonate with me (basically, I'm lazy).

So I thought I'd try to approach the question of promotion from another angle and on a more personal level by thinking of how I found my favorite comics. So I thought we could have a nice community brainstorm by listing some of our favorite webcomics + how we found them, and then see if the results point to some revolutionary, super-fast and effective way to promote you comic (it probably won't but hey! it'll be fun (I think) (eh...))). Anywho, here's mine:

BACKLASH Fun comic about space punches with fun characters and a fun author. It's the webcomic that motivated me to start my own! I originally found it on Deviantart thanks to a fun friend of the fun author who drew some SFX for one of the first pages.
FYREARM & PARADISE Which I ended up reading because the authors of both webcomics are friends of BACKLASH's creator (and also, they're good webcomics). Together, the trio makes the Speech Bubbles Podcast, which is a podcast on webcomics that's perfect to listen to when you're drawing your webcomic.
PRAGUE RACE A comic with fluffy werewolves and some other stuff, I guess, but don't let that distract you from all the FLUFF! This one was recommended to me by a friend.
KILL SIX BILLION DEMONS A bit heavy for the slow-minded millennials who seek instant gratifications such as me but I'd read the title here and there and thought that it alone made it a solid "worth checking out". So I checked it out.
THE INHERITORS It was very often on Tapas' front page so I ended up reading it eventually coz dat art if faiya!
WITCHY I found the author on twitter and really liked their use of colors. I saw they had a webcomic and BAM! All the colors!
FALLING APPLES This one, I just kinda fell upon on tumblr, which is a great place for kinda falling upon cool stuff. I don't know how to describe it but this comic just has a real nice, cozy feel to it (did that make sense?)

K. That's all I got for now but I'll update if I come across some other fresh comic in a notable way.

I found most comics from the "Let me see your comics" posts on the forum- and some I found because they're made by my favourite youtubers!

im gonna include print comics in this bc... idk why not.

i found the Backstagers just by scrolling through new wednesday releases. im a passionate techie so the title forced me to give it a looksie.

similarly, we(l)come back and godshaper had really fucking cool covers that caused me to read them after browsing new releases - they were also from boom! studios (same as backstagers) who i trust to be amazing.

as for webcomics, i found spire in a 'comics with small fanbase' thread where i checked out every comic posted for a while. its a really amazing comic with great art and a brilliant concept, so no wonder its fanbase is a little less small these days.

i discovered les normaux and witchy through an LGBT comics thread, i think, back in 2015.

basically most of the comics i follow i found in the forums, prolly bc its a place where the creators get to talk more at length abt their comic, and with more passion and less pitch. i also found some through scrolling fresh now and then.

I found my favorite comics by reading reviews on sites like cbr, and way back there's was a thing called wizard magazine, that was the bible! and follow my favorite artist too.

Gunnerkriegg Court My boyfriend recommended it.

Satan and Me I think a friend recommended it to me? I can't even remember anymore...

Ava's Demon My cousin recommended it to me (Starting to see a pattern?)

Mias and Elle and Rain I found on dA ages ago before they even started making the comics.

Sunstone (NSFW) I found in an imgur thread about webcomics.

After starting joining chats though I get recommendations from other creators there. On Discord I joined a webcomicchat, and I got recommended Kill Six Million Demons, Love not Found, and then just check out all the new people in the chat's comics. some stick, most don't. I'm a fussy reader.

So basically I need another person's word for it that it is good before I check it out. I get overwhelmed by huge lists and pages like Tapas' front page and such, and can't choose to read anything that way. I hope this is helpful in some way...

i found avas demon through my friend who was making fanart and patrik the vampire through jaymamons blog while searching for art of their ocs

ive been kinda too busy to sit down and read more :'v

I also found Mias and Elle this way. But it was a super long time ago. I don't go on DA much any more these days.

I found Pest Caravan from the forums. The creator had posted their designs in one of my threads I had started.

She followed me... I followed her, tale as old as time, haha.

I'm pretty sure this comic was spotlighted.

Gosh Silversong I've been following forever. I feel like I also found this in the forums, just in the forums from another website.

Found this one on the forums too.

I think I mostly find my favorites through the forums!

Web comics I'm currently digging:

I found three of these on the "Fresh" section. I make it my mission to check it daily; it's so hard for authors to get noticed on Tapas that I feel, as a community, we've got to bypass Tapas' picks and go search out our own.

Another I found on the forums. I've got many more found this way that I need to dive into... I consume stories like donuts.

I found my favorites on accident while looking through the Raoul de Chagny tag on Tumblr before Tumblr broke its tag system. Fantomestein kept popping up and after I read it, I started branching out into other comics that Beka recommended :V

My other favorites I found by going through the fresh section, it was a happy accident.

Weirdly enough when stumble upon was first starting to get popular I ended up finding most of my favorites. For whatever reason that place was a haven for interesting webcomics. It introduced me to a lot of the main ones from hiveworks but also weirder stuff like sequential art and three word phrase.

Most of them I found either from the forums or through the Fresh section on mobile (as flawed as it may be). The others I found because I recognized them from somewhere else.

One comic, I found because they were one of the few people who were subscribed to me and I was curious about their work.
