great tip, I think everything you need to know about panels etc is in the book Understading comics by scott mc cloud, then there's more but that's pretty solid foundation.

I found my favorite comics by reading reviews on sites like cbr, and way back there's was a thing called wizard magazine, that was the bible! and follow my favorite artist too.
