nah i jus love that shit. but its not rly what i meant

say, the short im working on rn. i researched:
- ai weiwei
- lynd ward
- a buuuuuunch of science-infused art from an exhibition called human+
- ghost in the shell
- a buncha stuff abt london (not as much, given I Live Here)

on top of this i didnt research but did get influenced by
- black mirror
- channel 4's humans
- taika waititi
- metropolis

therefor, primordial soup from which my actual idea eventually grew

Most of my ideas come from when I read a novel or a comic, but not satisfied with the way things went in those stories, like, I like that character, I don't want her to die, I would love to read more about her, or I hate that guy, the mc is too soft heart, he should just kill him, or why the heck the mc went with the annoying rich guy, the prince like childhood friend is way better, why don't you look at him etc..

That's mostly how I started my stories, I create my own world, my own stories, my own characters because I want to tell a story of a character with that kind of personality, I want to torture that kind of bad guys, I want a story where a caring sweet childhood friend win the girl.

For stories details, I write down the start and the end ( of the whole story, of an arc, of a chapter, of a scene ) I wanted first, put the character at the start, let them to do their own things to lead to the end, then slowly add smaller details like what do they talk about, how do they act, I dont care about the story mood, foreshadow or plotwist..etc.. at this point.

I'm the type that can not think very widely so I need to write everything down first, when I have a closer and clearer look on my own story, the best ideas naturally comes to me, this is when I decide the character should do this, the story should be that, these mobs character can fire up the mood...etc... sometime I need to re write the whole thing because of that.

I personally come up with ideas from either funny experiences/ conversations, or a random idea will just come to me during the day. (usually while I'm at work) My comic is one of those gag a day strips so I find it easier to incorporate the ideas that come to me.

I tend to make a lot of environmental concept pieces of character designs, and often make tiny stories in my head for them, so I always have a little backlog of stuff I may or may not come back to. My current project is entirely based on a prompt someone gave me because I was bored and I have plenty more. XD

Sometimes I do some sorta of challenge. I add a couple elements on the story and try to connect them in order to make sense. Doesn't have to be elements that have something in common, can be anything just using creativity to do the job, but it also takes time to think of something

They usually fold out of a single theme/ point I want that is the core of the story. I designed a short story as a day-in-the-life-of one of my characters from a larger project just to learn how to make comics. Another I designed because I just wanted an excuse to paint the ocean and draw mermaids in a lot of scenes.

This really resonates with me too. Sometimes you see the same tropes occurring in various media and you're sitting there like "Why can't it happen this other way for once, why does it always have to be the same thing." >:c

The worse thing you can do is sit around waiting for inspiration to arrive. Get up and take a long walk, the longer the better. The further you walk, the more ideas will come bursting forth. Better take a notepad.

Showers are good too, but don't take the notepad.

I watch videos about a certain theme I wanna tackle. When it's about love I just search up short story or how to videos about romance. And sometimes when I'm really in a slump I watch movies. It gives me fresh ideas I could build upon or add to my current story.

Hope this helps with your writing

Usually stuff comes to me when I'm staring out a window or something. Or if I'm feeling inspired after watching a really good movie. Or after listening to a crispy band/jazz concert. I think the trick is to do mindless activities and ALWAYS write down anything you think of. You're not gonna remember that good idea 7 days later. ^_^

One thing I learned the hard way...NEVER write ANYTHING if you are not inspired by it or if it bores you.
Think about it...that boredom will come out in your work and in result..your readers will be bored or uninspired by your writing.
For me....I started to write "What I think people will want to read"
Then....I realized it started to feel like a 9 to 5 job I just didn't want to go to ........ sit down and think to yourself "What do I truly want to write about?"
It should feel like your creation is writing it's self...let your characters do the work (as crazy as that sounds)
Just forget the world and let your fingers go...
When you get writers block...READ

Think on that

I do a gag-a-day comic strip. I get ideas by mining for memes or other funny things people say on Facebook. If all else fails, I use a pun or make a reference to 80s popular culture.

Some of my comics are not funny, but are introspective. I get my ideas from quotes by Rumi, Alan Watts, or other philosophers.

I go to sleep. I dream. I try to remember the dream.

I'm still honestly pissed at myself for always forgetting the real good dreams once I wake up D: but yeah my inspirations usually comes from delusions from both when I'm awake and asleep.

I usually have the better ideas doing something completely not related to something "artistic", like walking, showering, before sleep, etc.
Then, I grabbed my cell phone and recorded the idea in the voice recorder app for don't forget it. It helps a lot :>

Keep a notebook and write the dreams down in it! I have a notebook in my bedside table that I use for it. Makes it easier to remember if you keep notes.

I'm a maladaptive daydreamer! What that means is I have daydream episodes when I'm doing something repetitive like walking on my own. As a child I would always get hurt because of it - not able to focus on where I was going.
Now I use it to come up with scenes and characters... Sometimes I wonder if I look unusual walking down the street speaking the information out loud to myself lol

I listen to music a lot. It seems that my brain tends to wander off and create entire stories just by listening to music. Mutane was created after listening to specific genres for 14 years. Like one crazy hallucination created by music and thrown onto paper. The only effort I have to make is drawing it and colouring it. The rest was done in my mind.

I usually just draw without any idea in mind, and sometimes I create a character accidentally, or I do studies and the same thing happens since I'm imagining the person behind the pose and stuff.

Kinda creepy but I have full blown conversations while drawing characters, I'm in character and my brain throws them into a situation and I start having a debate with another character. I guess it's weird but at some point I won't even really know what I'm talking about anymore, it's just happening ^^'.

And sometimes I just have a random thought that then developes to a scene. Then it escalates and whoops I have a whole story to tell. That's kinda what happend with my webcomic. This idea didn't leave me alone, so I sat down to draw it and while drawing it it really blew up and morphed into a whole universe.
