Usually studying other things and concepts such as other series/media can help. ^w^

Well it's usually the long run, or history among characters that can draw excitement for a confrontation. It can also be people who have not met at all but the audience has seen how they handle things, making it interesting how this confrontation would play out.

Now i'm saying this cause the dialog can't just be common threats like, "I'm gonna kick you're teeth in" cause it's not implying much other than the fight itself. With characters that either have history or don't, you can draw experiences from their past and bring it up now to add leverage to the next move.

Take for instance, Injustice 2. This sequel to first installment has a system that was already their called the Clash. In this two characters would come in close and exchange dialogue before one of them capitalizes on the other. The first game had this but the dialogue between two characters would often be just random exchanges of words. However, in Injustice 2 they added to that by making specific dialogue for specific pairings like Aquaman and Red Manta, Superman and Batman, Joker and Harley.

To make a character interesting you show their reactions and ideas towards certain situations. The dialogue in a fight against characters could be built upon that.

I think dialogue is badass when it comes from a badass. Some badasses like to go into detail and some like to understate themselves. Here we see an exchange betweeen those two kinds:

Philip II of Macedon: "If I enter Laconia, I will level Sparta to the ground."

The Spartans: "If."

Some badasses lean toward the serious:

Jeanne de Clisson: "Tell the King of France that the Lioness of Brittany is coming for him."

And some display a certain amount of humor:

Chesty Puller: "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things."

What these people have in common is utter confidence in their own abilities. They know they aren't making empty threats. And other people know it too.

Genghis Khan: "I am the flail of god. Had you not created great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you."

So I guess you should focus not on making badass dialogue, but on making badass characters.

The Goddess Ishtar: "If thou openest not the gate to let me enter, I will break the door, I will wrench the lock, I will smash the door-posts, I will force the doors. I will bring up the dead to eat the living. And the dead will outnumber the living."

Being a badass is about confidence and being able to back up your confidence with your abilities. Also, as joe_galindez said, there are many styles of badass.

search the spartans they are masters at the witty come back
example:
"King Philip II of Macedon started invading the crap out of Greece. After he had several key footholds under his command, Philip decided to start putting pressure on Sparta, and sent them the following threatening message: “If I win this war, you will be slaves forever.”

The Spartan’s sent back a single word in reply: “if”."

 this is so good!!!! I'm gonna google this stuff up!! Is there a book or something I should read? I'm terrible at paying attention to texts with no pictures....

@YangKoete
I sort of did that before, but something felt missing, based on other's suggestions here, it seems like I had to dig deep into my character's background to come up with better dialog

Also, in tv tropes you can find tips and examples of badass dialog
here are the links:

OMG!!!! Duuudee... thank you sooo much... im gonna drown myself in these today. ...
:sob: thank you. ..

I'm glad you like it I got it from this here top ten spartans witty comeback list

the spartans where great war machines but also versed in literature and poetry, so they always had a great comeback to threats XD something the movie 300 actually got right

Also don`t forget a clever comeback can also be satisfactory, especially if the badass reverses an unfavorable situation. In tv tropes you can find some examples of these. Here is one kind

i usually try saying the words n sentences to myself n pick which ever one that gets my blood pumping for a fight
