There's also the gap between you and your readers/audience.
How much you know (more) and how much they know (less),
And maintaining that relationship because, you know, writer's research the things they intend to write about.
It's also interesting how many things people believe because of television and movies.
I've heard someone say "The cops could have shot the gun out of their hand" Why? They saw it on television enough to think that's how it *could work in real life. No, they have no idea about the level (or lack of ) police/law enforcement training.
Same with Martial Arts and same with guns and swords.
Yep, that skinny character is going hold that heavy two-handed sword with one hand. Yep. Looks cool though.

Former CIA operative watches spy scenes and reacts...
Mover, a real jet pilot watches the Top Gun 2 movie trailer and breaks it down...
Sword expert breaks down the Star Wars light sabers and duels....etc, etc..
Those are all interesting and even though movies have experts consultants on hand for everything, they mostly want to stretch things without breaking them. The character will be holding the gun correctly, but it will also never run out of bullets.
