So I have a very specific question about how to give a image a certain texture, if its even a texture, not really sure but, if someone were to also have a question about something else completely unrelated to my question then you could post it here and maybe people can answer smile

As for my question. See this image right here

Notice how it has sort of a pixely texture to it? Is that a texture if so how do you do that? If not... still how do you do that?

That could either be a photoshop canvas filter, or it could be a really good texture image placed on another layer, perhaps under a multiply or overlay layer.

It might have been saved out as a gif at some point. Usually you get that kind of pixelated look in the colors when you save something out in limited colors.

Tried the gif thing, seems to have done the job for the most part, thanks smile

I think it's called dithering, something that (as @sbattale pointed out) you can get through gif format. But imo, saving an image as a gif just to get that effect seems pretty roundabout...I'm sure you can also use a texture. Try messing around with noise in Photoshop (Filter->Noise)

Well, are you using Photoshop or Paint Tool SAI? If you're using Photoshop, I wouldn't quite know how to get that effect (probably just an image filter) but if you're using SAI, changing the layer style to something like "Canvas", "Watercolor A", or "Watercolor B" will get you that effect ^__^

I'm using illustrator. A program not alot of people seem to use now and days I see >_>

I don't really like illustrator xDD I don't know, most Adobe products are too confusing for me to use. I have Photoshop CS6 and I like it but it's too slow and clunky so I stick to SAI. I've tried Illustrator and it scares me xDDD #offtopic

Oooh yeah, Illustrator is a tough program to use if you want to try and achieve a hand drawn look. However, I love working in vector because no quality is lost if you need to scale up an image. If your interested in looking at other programs, I'd highly recommend Manga Studio. The program really caters to comic making, you can hand draw easily in vector (that's what I use for my comic Oops), and you can add color, customize brushes, add effects, just an awesome fairly cheap program. The eraser tool alone has improved my life, by being able to erase whole overlapping sections of lines with a swipe of my wacom pen.

But yeah, I agree with most of the other comments that the pixels in the image is probably caused by abode's Save for Web option and then messing around with the compression settings.

When you're using Illustrator, things look so freaking clean that you can't help but want to make things look at least "handmade."

But as for the pixeling effect... I did find something that I bookmarked awhile back. It may be a primary sort of approach, but once you get this down you can get the gist of creating the texture you want/need for your work. Link's right here.2
